Journal:  Dermatoscopic Features of Early Erythema Chronicum Migrans. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 30, 2023
The rash was diagnosed as erythema chronicum migrans (ECM), and the patient was started on doxycycline 100 mg BID...However, as emphasized by Errichetti, dermatoscopic examination in non-neoplastic diseases should be regarded as the second step of a "2-step procedure", with differential diagnoses established first by history and clinical examination (3). A systematic investigation of early and late, typical and atypical lesions would improve the reliability and utility of this method.

  • ||||||||||  Journal:  BACTERIAL PROFILE, ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE, AND FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH URINARY TRACT INFECTION AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN AT HOSANNA TOWN HEALTH FACILITIES, CENTRAL ETHIOPIA. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 27, 2023
The gram-positive bacteria were susceptible to gentamicin (86.4%), erythromycin (81.8%), and nitrofurantoin (77.3%): whereas they showed a high level of resistance to penicillin (72.7%), doxycycline (54.5%), trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (52.9%), and cefoxitin (52.9%)...Therefore, regularly, culture-based bacterial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing should be performed. Alternatively, empiric antibiotic therapy should consider the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant uropathogens and the factor that may increase the urinary tract infection occurrence due to multi-drug resistant uropathogens.

Journal:  A novel method for predicting the emergence of toxicity interaction in ternary mixtures. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 27, 2023
Doxycycline hyclate (DH), bromoacetic acid (BAA) and iodoacetic acid (IAA) were used as target pollutants...TIPM could predict the emergence of DH-MAA-IAA toxicity interactions well based on the relationship. Due the model is only related to the toxicity interactions and p value of a mixture, so it can be suggested to predict toxicity interaction within the more complex multicomponent mixtures, which provides a novel approach for the environmental risk assessment and prediction of hazardous substances.

Journal:  Depletion of Labile Iron Induces Replication Stress and Enhances Responses to Chemoradiation in Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 25, 2023
Depletion of the LIP in non-small-cell lung cancer cell lines using the doxycycline-inducible overexpression of the ferritin heavy chain (Ft-H) (H1299 and H292), or treatment with deferoxamine (DFO) (H1299 and A549), inhibited cell growth and decreased clonogenic survival...The Ft-H and DFO treatment also sensitized H1299 to VE-821, an inhibitor of ataxia telangiectasis and Rad2-related (ATR) kinase, highlighting the potential of LIP depletion, combined with DNA damage response modifiers, to alter lung cancer cell responses...Importantly, the Ft-H and DFO sensitized both H1299 and A549 to chemoradiation in vitro, and Ft-H overexpression increased the efficacy of chemoradiation in vivo in H1299. These results support the hypothesis that the depletion of the LIP can induce genomic instability, cell death, and potentiate therapeutic responses to chemoradiation in NSCLC.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Emergence of Antibiotic-Resistant Porphyromonas gingivalis in United States Periodontitis Patients. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 24, 2023
These findings are the first to reveal marked increases over 20 years in clindamycin-resistant and amoxicillin-resistant P. gingivalis in United States periodontitis patients. Increased antibiotic resistance of P. gingivalis and other periodontitis-associated bacteria threatens the efficacy of periodontal antimicrobial chemotherapy.
