Therefore, we show that cells actively take up fatty acids through macropinocytosis, and we provide a potential strategy suppressing tumor growth, lipogenesis, and hepatic steatosis through controlling the cellular level of fatty acids.

Current guidelines recommend a combination of behavioral support and pharmacologic therapy, with nicotine replacement therapy products, varenicline and bupropion being considered the first-line agents...Recurring to the PubMed database, we focused on articles published in the last decade and their included reference lists for additional information, including meta-analysis, systematic reviews and randomized clinical trials.Previous investigations have presented two second-line medications: nortriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant with some evidence that aids smoking cessation when compared with placebo, and cytisine, a partial agonist of the α4β2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, similar to varenicline, that has been marketed in central and eastern Europe as an aid in the clinical management of smoking cessation for decades...Adding to this, recent reports on in vitro cytisine’s cardiotoxicity and its most common adverse reactions, such as nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, upper abdominal pain and dry mouth must also be taken in consideration.In order to present cytisine as a valid first-line alternative to varenicline, more clinical studies with different scientific approaches are required to fully understand it’s safety and tolerability. Nonetheless, there’s already promising evidence published that could lead to changes in current guidelines for pharmacological therapy of smoking cessation in the future.

Important findings were that acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, ketamine, memantine, and liothyronine were associated with improved global cognitive functioning at 1-14 days post-ECT...Meta-analysis was not possible for the remaining interventions, including piracetam, melatonin, pemoline, nortriptyline, herbal agents, drugs acting on the cortisol pathway, opioid receptor antagonists, l-tryptophan, vasopressin analogs, calcium channel blockers, and others; in individual RCTs, some of these interventions attenuated some cognitive measures as some time points after ECT...Future research should study such clinically meaningful outcomes (rather than laboratory tests), using pharmacologic interventions, perhaps in combination, for ECT procedures that are associated with higher cognitive AE burden. A risk is that whatever attenuates ECT-induced cognitive AEs may also attenuate ECT-related therapeutic benefits.

Evaluation of both the absolute HAM-D scores and four factors derived from the HAM-D (depressed mood, sleep, psychic and somatic anxiety and suicidal ideation) revealed that the latter showed a greater promise in gauging the anti-depressant responses. The study confirms the assumption that while both drugs may improve several items on the HAM-D scale, the overall protocol may fall short of addressing the symptoms diversity in MDD and thus the analysis of factor (s) in question might be more relevant and meaningful.
