- |||||||||| Journal: Prevalence and contamination patterns of Listeria monocytogenes in Pleurotus eryngii (king oyster mushroom) production plants. (Pubmed Central) - Feb 13, 2023
The drug with the highest resistance is rifampicin (37.9%), followed by penicillin (24.1%) and ciprofloxacin (10.3%)...In accordance with these results, the control of L. monocytogenes should focus on the environmental materials, especially in the mycelium stimulation stage. However, effective Listeria monitoring programs will allow for the improved development of Listeria control measures to minimize cross-contamination in the processing of P. eryngii.
- |||||||||| Journal: Evaluation of synergistic activity of antibiotic combinations in extensive drug-resistant Acinetobacter species using checkerboard assay. (Pubmed Central) - Feb 10, 2023
The broth micro-dilution method was performed to determine tigecycline MIC...MIC results by the Vitek 2C system revealed that all Acinetobacter isolates were resistant to all tested antibiotics except for colistin against which no resistance was reported...The activities of antibiotic combinations by checkerboard assay were as follows: ampicillin/sulbactam plus amikacin was synergic in 52?%, additive 40?% and indifferent in 8?% of isolates, ampicillin/sulbactam plus ciprofloxacin was synergic in 40?%, additive 46?% and indifferent in 14?% of isolates, meropenem/amikacin combination was synergic in 22?%, additive in 49?% of isolates and indifferent in 29?% of isolates...This reflects the value of adding aminoglycosides to either of a ?-lactam or quinolone. The tested antibiotic combinations are promising treatment options for XDR-Acinetobacter.

The role of perioperative antibiotics in total laryngectomy? () - Feb 8, 2023 - Abstract #ECHNOICHNO2023ECHNO_ICHNO_277; In primary laryngectomies, PCF formation was also reduced in patients that received perioperative antibiotic coverage, but it was not considered statistically significant (p=0.618). Conclusion Patients undergoing a salvage total laryngectomy should be routinely administrated with perioperative antibiotics to reduce the incidence of a postoperative PCF formation.

Journal: Case of Hyperammonemia Due to Empyema. (Pubmed Central) - Feb 2, 2023 We diagnosed her with right empyema leading to hyperammonemia and initiated ampicillin/sulbactam therapy...Empyema caused by urease-producing bacteria can lead to hyperammonemia. This is the first report of hyperammonemia due to empyema in the English literature.
- |||||||||| PURULENT TEETH AND PURULENT PLEURAL SPACE () - Jan 25, 2023 - Abstract #SCCM2023SCCM_1384;
Vancomycin, cefepime, and metronidazole were started...He was discharged on ampicillin/ sulbactam for a total course of four weeks...Identifying those organisms allowed us to search and treat for the underlying conditions. Treatment strategies include appropriate antibiotic therapy along with pleural space drainage.

SEVERE SUPPURATIVE SIALADENITIS IN A COVID-19-POSITIVE PATIENT () - Jan 25, 2023 - Abstract #SCCM2023SCCM_1315; While SARS-CoV-2 has previously been associated with non-suppurative sialadenitis, this case highlights the possibility of suppurative infection. Sialadenitis, parotitis and other orofacial symptoms may potentially be notable presentations of COVID-19, though more studies are necessary to further comprehend the otolaryngologic implications of the virus.
- |||||||||| Journal: Susceptibility profile of bla and metallo-β-lactamases co-harbouring isolates of carbapenem resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) against standard drugs and combinations. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 24, 2023
Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), MIC and MIC values against imipenem, meropenem, doripenem, ampicillin/sulbactam, minocycline, amikacin, polymyxin B, colistin and tigecycline was tested as per guidelines...Of the total, resistance above 90% was noted against gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, ceftazidime, cefepime, ceftriaxone, cotrimoxazole and piperacillin/tazobactam...Presence of bla gene was a significant cause of synergy loss in meropenem-sulbactam and meropenem-colistin. In bla endemic regions, tigecycline, minocycline and polymyxins could be viable options against CRAB isolates with more than one carbapenemase encoding genes.

Journal: Microbiology Culture Results and Antibiotic Prescribing in Pediatric Patients With Lymphadenitis. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 20, 2023 Patients presenting to our institution with acute bacterial lymphadenitis were predominantly found to have methicillin-susceptible S. aureus lymphadenitis that could be empirically treated with cefazolin. At our institution, there is little advantage to the most commonly used broad-spectrum agent, ampicillin-sulbactam.
- |||||||||| HEARTBREAK FROM PUPPY LOVE: A CRITICAL CASE OF PASTURELLA MULTOCIDA AORTIC VALVE ENDOCARDITIS (Poster Hall_Hall F) - Jan 4, 2023 - Abstract #ACCWCC2023ACC_WCC_6600;
multocida was isolated from 2 of 2 admission blood cultures.Decision?making: Patient was treated with piperacillin/tazobactam, then ampicillin/sulbactam, and then with ceftriaxone when a rash developed on ampicillin/sulbactam. P. multocida endocarditis is rare, usually involves the aortic valve, often requires surgical valve replacement for cure, and is usually associated with some type of animal contact.

Journal: The effect of antibiotic therapy on recovery after adenotonsillectomy in children (Pubmed Central) - Dec 22, 2022 The control group received ampicillin sulbactam sodium intravenously 30 min before surgery and the day after surgery...The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.01); The time of pain disappearance was (7.36±2.483) days in the observation group and (5.14±2.004) days in the control group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.01). Perioperative use of antibiotics in children with adenotonsillectomy can effectively reduce postoperative fever, throat pain symptoms and shorten the pain time.

Journal: Growth kinetics of multiple Acinetobacter baumannii resistotype after meropenem-based antibiotic combination exposure. (Pubmed Central) - Dec 20, 2022 Isolates treated with resistant antibiotics showed an increased growth rate compared to the growth control. The combination of meropenem and ampicillin-sulbactam could be a promising combination therapy in treating CRAB infections. The mechanism and degree of antibiotic resistance in the isolates affect the efficacy of antibiotic combinations; further research is needed to corroborate the findings of this study.

Review, Journal: Antibiotic therapy for pan-drug-resistant infections. (Pubmed Central) - Dec 10, 2022 The PDR K. pneumoniae has been treated in the last decades with tigecycline and colistin, but currently, nitrofurantoin, fosfomycin, and pivmecillinam seem to be the most effective agent for the therapy of PDR E. coli. While these drugs impressively struggle with PDR pathogens, due to the daily increase in antibiotic resistance in microorganisms worldwide, there is still an urgent need for the expansion of novel medicines and methods of combating resistance.
