Treatment with both tigecycline and minocycline rescued the osteoporotic phenotype induced by prednisolone in a zebrafish osteoporosis model. Our findings demonstrate that the tetracycline analogs suppress osteoclastogenesis via MMP-9-mediated H3 tail cleavage, and suggest that MMP-9 inhibition could offer a new strategy for the treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.

Within the constraints of the condition adopted, this study confirms the sporadic presence of prednisolone traces (2 samples out of 15) and the consistently increased concentration of cortisone and cortisol in the urines collected from cows subjected to truck transportation and subsequent slaughtering. No prednisolone metabolites were detected in any liver and adrenal gland samples, nor in urine specimens, unlike what was previously reported for cows artificially stressed by pharmacological treatment.

The current findings suggest that clinically relevant outcome measures in the macaque model of ulcerative colitis could be used to test novel treatments.

Mdx mice were randomly assigned into three groups: mdxS, the control group receiving intraperitoneal (i.p.) injections of saline solution (100μL); mdxP, positive control group receiving prednisolone (1mg/kg) by oral gavage; and mdxT, treated group receiving i.p. injections of tempol (100 mg/kg)...No evidence of Tempol's beneficial performance on angiogenesis in DIA and BB mdx muscles was found. The findings presented here show that Tempol treatment improves dystrophic phenotype, supporting its use as a potential therapeutic strategy in DMD.

We herein report a 72-year-old man with anti-proteinase 3 (anti-PR3) anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-positive EGPA diagnosed by the presence of cardiac tamponade, which responded quickly to pericardiocentesis and a single administration of prednisolone. This is the first case of anti-PR3 ANCA-positive EGPA with cardiac tamponade; the patient displayed clinical features of both ANCA-positive and ANCA-negative cases.

Conclusions In alloHSCT recipients without CMV prophylaxis, CMV serostatus and donor type are significant predictors of CMV reactivation and overall survival, with CMV D-/R+ MUDs the highest risk group for cs-CMVi and mortality, therefore potential candidates for CMV prophylaxis.

A 49-year-old woman with membranous nephropathy was referred to our hospital during the tapering of oral prednisolone, because of suspicion of primary adrenal insufficiency based on a plasma ACTH level of 399.1 pg/mL in the Elecsys assay and a serum cortisol level of 3.1 μg/dL...To our knowledge, this is the first case in which the Elecsys ACTH assay yielded falsely elevated results. Regardless of the measurement system used, if there is a discordance between assay results and clinical findings, it should be considered to adopt additional procedures and/or another assay.

Everolimus, a mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor, was manifested as the third most frequently associated drug with hyperglycemia or diabetes (340 cases), following prednisolone (694 cases) and tacrolimus (393 cases), and the reporting odds ratio (ROR 8.56, 95% CI 7.65-9.57) of this drug was higher than that of the two aforementioned drugs (ROR 3.96, 95% CI 3.66-4.28 and ROR 3.51, 95% CI 3.17-3.89). These results suggest that there is a potent association of evelolimus with hyperglycemia in clinical practice in Japan.

Initial tolerability may be more favourable with bendamustine than other therapies overall, but clinical vigilance is still required because of concerns of late infectious toxicities associated with prolonged T-cell depletion.
