    Restrictive Domains in Healthcare Opioid Legislation in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (Exhibition Hall/Poster Area) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #IASP2024IASP_1524;
    In this prospective, randomized, controlled study, the PENG block has demonstrated effective analgesia with minimal adverse effects while allowing early postoperative mobilisation. While analyses of associations of restrictive domains and HDI and QDI are ongoing and results are pending, this scoping review preliminarily calls attention to the specific restrictive domains of the legislative language that may negatively influence access to quality pain management.Individual models of success in facilitating access to opioids and developing palliative care programs were identified in Nepal, Mongolia, and Uganda.

    Pain Management in Cancer Patients  (Exhibition Hall/Poster Area) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #IASP2024IASP_1351;
    72 patients (86%) benefited of major opioids administration (Morphine, Fentanyl, Oxycodone), and for 51 patients co-analgesics were administered. Although in Romania palliative care at home is still not sufficiently well developed, it can represent a viable solution for controlling the pain of cancer patients at their home, and for improving their quality of life.

    Case Report: Hip Radiofrecuency Ablation in a 12 years Old Cancer Pain Girl (Rhabdomyosarcoma) (Exhibition Hall/Poster Area) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #IASP2024IASP_1270;
    Using the hip denervation technique described, the sciatic innervation remains and reduces the possibility of a Charcot joint. Regardless, hip denervation in a pediatric patient should be considered a last resort in the treatment of hip pain.Hip denervation is a potentially useful pain intervention when conservative or surgical options fail.
  • ||||||||||  How Can We Make Pain Relief Accessible and Equitable for Children with Cancer Across the World? (Exhibition Hall/Poster Area) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #IASP2024IASP_1059;
    Nevertheless, the use of acetaminophen and ibuprofen in the context of pediatric pain related to cancer may be limited by concerns of masking fever or bleeding risks, respectively, and the efficacy of tramadol may be limited by its weak opioid effect. Difficulties with obtaining pediatric formulations have been identified and education of pharmacists in local preparation of morphine solution may improve availability.
  • ||||||||||  Neuropathic Pain in Steven Johnson Syndrome, a case report (Exhibition Hall/Poster Area) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #IASP2024IASP_1010;
    Healthcare workers should remain vigilant for serious adverse drug reactions. Timely introduction of most suitable pharmacological agent according to type of pain (neuropathic) results in favorable outcomes provided such interventions are carried out in expert hands in suitable clinical environment.

    Uncovering genetic predictors for extreme morphine responses in infants and children (Exhibition Hall/Poster Area) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #IASP2024IASP_860;
    Background & Aims: Morphine and fentanyl are commonly prescribed for relief of major pain in infants and children; however, responses range from inadequate pain relief (requiring higher doses/other analgesics) to adverse effects (e.g., respiratory depression, hypotension, allergic reaction), and the long-term consequences of opioid use on the developing brain remain unclear [1,2]. Knowledge of genetic variants that contribute to extreme opioid responses will facilitate development of predictive pharmacogenetic tests so that the safest and most effective pain management strategies are used.

    Despite this, superior and inferior hypogastric plexus and ganglion impar block are choices for pelvic pain and genito-urinaria. Bilateral neurolysis of the superior hypogastric plexus was chosen to control pain relating to penile cancer pain at a level that can be acceptable to the patient.
  • ||||||||||  Pain Management Strategies Following Total Knee Arthroplasty During an Opioid Epidemic (Exhibition Hall/Poster Area) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #IASP2024IASP_662;
    While most of these patients used these medications in addition to opioids, further research is needed to determine if these medications were used at the same time or consecutively due to limited opioid prescriptions. This study also demonstrated that patients required opioids to manage their postoperative pain following TKA and that additional non-opioid medications and non-pharmacologic strategies were also frequently needed.

    A Correlation Of Fentanyl Patches Prescribing With Raised Opioid Awareness Over 10 Years in England (Exhibition Hall/Poster Area) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #IASP2024IASP_625;
    The maximum dose of OME to 120mg/day would imply all fentanyl patches greater than a 25 microgram patch would exceed this target and therefore should be reviewed and titrated down. The encouraging results can be seen that NuTH and the surrounding primary care setting are working collaboratively to ensure the prescribing trends are in the correct direction.
