Journal: Pulmonary 4D-flow MRI imaging in landrace pigs under rest and stress. (Pubmed Central) - May 31, 2024 The current study showed that pulmonary flow and velocity assessed through 4D-flow MRI follow the physiological alterations during cardiac cycle and after stress induced by dobutamine. A clinical translation to assess pulmonary diseases with 4D-flow MRI under stress conditions needs investigation.

Journal: Atypical Antipsychotic Prescribing in Australian Children and Adolescents: A Survey of Medical Practitioners. (Pubmed Central) - May 31, 2024 Children and adolescents were prescribed a number of atypical antipsychotics for a variety of indications, with variable perceived confidence and a relatively heavy reliance on "own or peer experience" as opposed to good quality evidence. Challenges exist for both prescribers and policymakers, and further "head-to-head" studies are needed in this age group to ensure that a balance is maintained between therapeutic benefit and safety.

Retrospective data, Journal: Aripiprazole as protector against COVID-19 mortality. (Pubmed Central) - May 30, 2024 Aripiprazole has been shown to have a differentiated beneficial effect in protecting against fatal clinical outcome in COVID-19 infected individuals. We speculate that the differential effect of aripiprazole on controlling immunological pathways and inducible inflammatory enzymes, that are critical in COVID19 illness, may be associated with our findings herein.

- |||||||||| FIBROMYALGIA MANAGEMENT IN LATIN AMERICA: DATA FROM THE FIBROLATAM SURVEY () - May 29, 2024 - Abstract #EULAR2024EULAR_4551;
The management of fibromyalgia in the region follows the recommendations of the currently available guidelines; prioritizing multimodal therapies and the use of duloxetine, amitriptyline pregabalin, cyclobenzaprine and to a lesser extent opioids. Most rheumatologists considered the use of opioids inappropriate.

WHAT TYPES OF FIBROMYALGIA AND CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS BENEFIT FROM MULTIMODAL INPATIENT PAIN PROGRAMS? () - May 29, 2024 - Abstract #EULAR2024EULAR_4334; Our models indicate that social context, along with psychotropic and opioid medication are key determinants in the short-term response to multimodal inpatient pain programs. However, the full spectrum of benefits from multimodal treatments may extend beyond pain relief and are not fully measurable within a two-week timeframe.

Journal, Surgery: New Frontiers in Wide-Awake Surgery. (Pubmed Central) - May 29, 2024 Three disruptive innovations are changing the landscape of surgery: (1) minimally painful injection of large-volume, low-concentration tumescent local anesthesia eliminates the need for sedation for many procedures over the entire body; (2) epinephrine vasoconstriction in tumescent local anesthesia is a good alternative to the tourniquet and proximal nerve blocks in extremity surgery (sedation for tourniquet pain is no longer required for many procedures); and (3) evidence-based sterility and the elimination of sedation enable many larger procedures to move out of the main operating room into minor procedure rooms with no increase in infection rates. This continuing medical education article explores some of the new frontiers in which these changes affect surgery all over the body.

(Pubmed Central) - May 27, 2024 In addition, we showed that the relative pharmaceutical removal in all solutions was independent of the initial pharmaceutical concentration unless the background organics matrix changed considerably. We conclude that removal of micropollutants in GAC columns from organics-depleted urine can be performed without clogging, but with the drawback of a higher carbon usage compared to removal from nitrified urine.

Protein-Drug Interaction (PDI) assessment showed that multiple drugs, including Ibuprofen, Nicotine, Tramadol, Haloperidol, Ketamine, L-Glutamic Acid, Caffeine, Citalopram, and Naloxone, had more than one interaction...Notably, 10 chemicals, including carbamylhydrazine, tetrahydropalmatine, Terazosin, beta-methylcholine, rubimaillin, and quinelorane, demonstrated dual interactions with the aforementioned target genes...The insights from this report can be applied in exome analysis as a pharmacogenomics (PGx) panel for pain susceptibility, facilitating individualized opioid prescribing through genotyping of related variants. The article also points out that African Americans represent an important group that displays a high catabolism of opioids and suggest the need for a personalized therapeutic approach based on genetic information.
