    Journal:  Molecular docking based comparative study of antiviral compounds on SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. (Pubmed Central) -  May 17, 2024
    Using molecular docking and the Lipinski five rule, this study illustrates possible compounds with strong binding affinities, their molecular interactions, for both naturally occurring and man-made drugs. Computational approach is applied, and it is concluded that, drugs like Withanolide, Dihydroergocristine, Fenebrutinib, and Ergotamine shows binding energies between -8.3 and -9.1?kcal/mol, and are possible candidate for anti covid drug.

    Review, Journal:  Rapid cycle deliberate practice approach on resuscitation training: A systematic review. (Pubmed Central) -  May 17, 2024
    A meta-analysis was performed on three outcomes: time to chest compressions, time to defibrillation and time to first epinephrine given, which showed that RCDP had significantly shorter time to defibrillation and time to administration of epinephrine than controls...However, substantial variations of delivering RCDP exist and there is no uniform use of RCDP. Further research is necessary on medium/long-term effects of RCDP training, and on the effects on different target groups of training.

    Journal:  Insulin resistance in Takotsubo syndrome. (Pubmed Central) -  May 16, 2024
    In mice, insulin- and glucose injection both improved EPI-induced AHF and myocardial damage, indicating insulin resistance rather than detrimental effects of hyperglycaemia itself as the underlying cause. Future studies will investigate the role of HbA1c as a risk stratifier and of insulin-based therapy in TTS.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Inpatient Management of Hyperemesis Gravidarum. (Pubmed Central) -  May 16, 2024
    Mirtazapine, olanzapine, corticosteroids, and gabapentin are examples of alternative pharmacotherapeutics, and enteral and parenteral nutrition are alternative therapies that can be used when oral intake is not tolerated for prolonged time periods with ongoing weight loss. In refractory cases of hyperemesis gravidarum, the risks and benefits of these alternative forms of management must be considered, along with the risks of undertreated hyperemesis gravidarum and the overall effect of hyperemesis gravidarum on patients' quality of life.

    None of the other tested drugs provided a lifespan benefit in either sex. These data bring to 7 the list of ITP-tested drugs that induce at least a 10% lifespan increase in one or both sexes, add a fourth drug with demonstrated mid-life benefits on lifespan, and provide a testable hypothesis that might explain the sexual dimorphism in lifespan effects of the SGLT2 inhibitor Cana.

    Journal:  Evaluation of the Clinical Drug-Drug Interaction Potential of Pritelivir on Transporters and CYP450 Enzymes Using a Cocktail Approach. (Pubmed Central) -  May 16, 2024
    In another trial, the substrates repaglinide (CYP2C8) and rosuvastatin (BCRP) were administered separately...The results of these trials indicated that pritelivir has no clinically relevant effect on the exposure of substrates for the intestinal uptake transporter OATP2B1 and the CYP enzymes 3A4, 2B6, 2C9, and 2C8, and has a weak inhibitory effect on the intestinal efflux transporter BCRP. In summary, the results suggest that pritelivir has a low drug-drug interaction potential.

    Clinical, Journal:  The Effect of Melatonin on Reducing the Frequency and Severity of Migraine Attacks: A Double-Blind, Randomized Clinical Trial. (Pubmed Central) -  May 16, 2024
    A total of 60 patients with episodic migraine were randomly assigned into 2 groups of receiving 3 mg melatonin (intervention group; n=30) or the same dose of placebo (control group; n=30) along with baseline therapy (propranolol 20 mg, BID) for two months...Our study shows that melatonin was more efficacious than the placebo in the reduction of frequency and duration of migraine attacks. It was equally safe as the placebo and might be effective in the preventive treatment of episodic migraine in adults.Trial Registration Number: IRCT20190107042264N5.

    Leveraging Genetics in the Clinical Management of ADHD and Disruptive Behavior () -  May 16, 2024 - Abstract #WFSBP2024WFSBP_499;
    While current pharmacogenomic knowledge cannot predict which interventions are best for individual patients, some clinical guidance can be gleaned from pharmacogenomic data. As our knowledge about mechanisms of psychiatric disease and pharmacologic action expands, the use of pharmacogenomic DSTs in the practice of precision medicine will likewise mature.

  • ||||||||||  Association between CYP2D6 Slow Metabolizer Status and Exposure to Antipsychotics () -  May 16, 2024 - Abstract #WFSBP2024WFSBP_483;
    the most profound differences were observed in the patients treated with aripiprazole (CYP2D6 PM plus IM vs NM RoM, 1.48; 95% CI, 1.41-1.57; 12 studies; 1038 patients), haloperidol lactate (CYP2D6 PM vs NM RoM, 1.68; 95% CI, 1.40-2.02; 9 studies; 423 patients), risperidone (CYP2D6 PM plus IM vs NM RoM, 1.36; 95% CI, 1.28-1.44; 23 studies; 1492 patients). In this systematic review and meta-analysis, the association between CYP2D6 genotype and drug levels of several antipsychotics was quantified with sufficient precision as to be useful as a scientific foundation for CYP2D6 genotype-based dosing recommendations.

    Can we use inflammatory markers to personalise treatment for treatment-resistant depression? () -  May 16, 2024 - Abstract #WFSBP2024WFSBP_445;
    Particular treatments with anti-inflammatory mechanisms may be recommended for those with high inflammation, whereas others may be more suitable for patients without. This avenue of research has the potential to enhance TRD care by directing patients to the 'right' treatment earlier in the course of illness.

    The Examination of Black Hairy Tongue Disease through a Case in Psychiatric Patients () -  May 16, 2024 - Abstract #WFSBP2024WFSBP_374;
    The presence of black hairy tongue (BHT) in our patient during periods of Olanzapine use, the absence of this condition when using non-Olanzapine medications, and the rapid regression of the lesion after discontinuing Olanzapine suggest that Olanzapine is significant in terms of the etiology of BHT in our patient, in addition to other risk factors. With this case, we aim to highlight the importance of physical examinations necessary to detect BHT in individuals with psychiatric diagnoses.

    Using a Stem Cell-Derived Model to Repurpose Drugs for Bipolar Disorder () -  May 16, 2024 - Abstract #WFSBP2024WFSBP_356;
    The hypothesis generating data from the CMap analysis corroborates our idea that using the stem cell-derived in vitro model, we can bypass a fundamental roadblock in therapy development in psychiatry: the lack of singular molecular targets. It allows us to understand how healthy and diseased brains differ in key cell types while retaining the donor

  • ||||||||||  Predicting Clinical and Functional Outcomes in Chronic Schizophrenia. () -  May 16, 2024 - Abstract #WFSBP2024WFSBP_311;
    Further analyses will focus on predicting PANSS total at 12 weeks and 18 months, as well as predicting symptomatic remission, functioning and quality of life. Predicting which individuals will have poor clinical and functional outcomes and understanding the underlying factors behind these prediction may provide targets for new interventions and identify the group of patients who are most in need of these interventions.
