    Preclinical, Journal:  Reduced sympathetic activity is associated with the development of pain and muscle atrophy in a female rat model of fibromyalgia. (Pubmed Central) -  May 26, 2024
    Notably, treatment with a ?2-agonist alleviated hyperalgesia and prevented muscle atrophy in acidic saline-induced FM-like pain, while epinephrine depletion induced mechanical hyperalgesia and increased muscle proteolysis in animals under baseline conditions. Together, the results suggest that reduced sympathetic activity is involved in the development of pain and muscle atrophy in the murine model of FM analyzed.

    Journal:  Elucidation of escitalopram oxalate and related antidepressants as putative inhibitors of PTP4A3/PRL-3 protein in hepatocellular carcinoma: A multi-computational investigation. (Pubmed Central) -  May 26, 2024
    Therefore, in the current communication, an in-silico drug repurposing approach has been employed to target the function of PTP4A3/PRL-3 protein in HCC using antidepressants: Fluoxetine hydrochloride, Citalopram, Amitriptyline, Imipramine, and Escitalopram oxalate as the desired ligands...Escitalopram oxalate exhibited a comparatively significant docking score (-7.4?kcal/mol) compared to the control JMS-053 (-6.8?kcal/mol) against the PRL-3 protein...The docked complexes were subjected to MD studies (100?ns) showing stable interactions. Considering all the findings, it can be concluded that Escitalopram oxalate and related therapeutics can act as potential pharmacological candidates for targeting the activity of PTP4A3/PRL-3 in HCC.

    Journal:  Polysubstance Use among Maryland High School Students: Variations across County-Level School Districts. (Pubmed Central) -  May 25, 2024
    Despite the complexity of the reaction mechanism of Mirabegron with BChE, slow BChE-catalyzed degradation of Mirabegron in blood should have no impact on the pharmacological activities of this drug. These differences demonstrate the need for an examination of local trends in adolescent polysubstance use to inform multi-tiered prevention programming and policy.

    Journal:  Differential Modulation of Catecholamine and Adipokine Secretion by the Short Chain Fatty Acid Receptor FFAR3 and ?2-Adrenergic Receptors in PC12 Cells. (Pubmed Central) -  May 25, 2024
    Adrenal CA production from chromaffin cells is tightly regulated by sympatho-inhibitory ?2-adrenergic (auto)receptors (ARs), which inhibit both epinephrine (Epi) and NE secretion via coupling to Gi/o proteins...Finally, propionate-activated FFAR3 induces leptin and adiponectin secretion from PC12 cells, two important adipokines known to be involved in tissue inflammation, and this effect of FFAR3 is fully blocked by the ketone BHB. In conclusion, SCFAs can promote CA and adipokine secretion from adrenal chromaffin cells via FFAR3 activation, but the metabolite/ketone body BHB can effectively inhibit this action.

    Review, Journal:  Combination of Two Long-Acting Antipsychotics in Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders: A Systematic Review. (Pubmed Central) -  May 25, 2024
    Our findings suggest that voluntary binge-like METH or MDPV intake induces similar cellular perturbations in the brain, but they are divergent neuroimmune responses that persist beyond the initial abstinence phase. Our review highlights that the treatment regimen with two concurrent LAI APs is already widely used in clinical practice and is recognized as providing a promising, effective, and relatively safe therapeutic strategy for treating the schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

    Journal:  Resting and activated bovine neutrophils and eosinophils differ in their responses to adrenergic agonists. (Pubmed Central) -  May 25, 2024
    The responses of activated and resting neutrophils and eosinophils were then compared following stimulation with endogenous adrenergic agonists, epinephrine (E) norepinephrine (NE), and synthetic agonists targeting ?1-, ?2-, or ?-ARs...Significant differences in neutrophil and eosinophil responses to adrenergic agonists are consistent with their differences in AR gene expression. This highlights the importance of analysing separately these two PMN subpopulations when investigating the effects of either endogenous or synthetic AR agonists.

    A Physician-based Brazilian Registry for Hereditary Angioedema: insights from the first 508 Patients (Poster Zone) -  May 25, 2024 - Abstract #EAACI2024EAACI_2785;
    Of 425 patients treated for angioedema attacks, 234(55.1%) received first-line medications (Icatibant and plasma-derived C1-INH concentrate), and 78(18.4%) received epinephrine; 72.5% needed emergency care, and 10.1% required ICU admission because of angioedema attacks...Of these, 29(38.2%) were not receiving long-term prophylaxis, and 38(50%) were using attenuated androgens. Diagnosis of HAE and treatment of acute attacks appear to be improving in Brazil, however effective long-term prophylaxis which could lead to control of symptoms and normal life is still an unmet need for Brazilian patients with HAE.
