  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Eagle Syndrome as a Cause of Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 10, 2020
    In further examination, computed tomography (CT) venography images (Figure 1(C) and (D)) showed that the left jugular vein was compressed by the styloid process, consistent with Eagle syndrome.1 The patient who refused the recommended surgical treatment, however, chose anticoagulant therapy consisting of low-molecular weight heparin subcutaneous injection in addition to new oral anticoagulant. At 18-month follow-up, the patient reported no symptoms remained.
  • ||||||||||  A Case of Valproate Associated Diffuse Alveolar Hemorrhage (PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER, Hall D-E (200 Level), Area A) -  Mar 15, 2020 - Abstract #ATS2020ATS_5746;
    Novelty and importance of this case: This case showed that the reversible DAH due to VPA treatment with no other evidence of thrombocytopenia or pulmonary hemorrhage. Therefore, we report a rare case which showed valproate-associated diffuse pulmonary hemorrhage and fully recovered after drug withdrawal.

    The Proteomic Profile Associated with Lung Function and COPD in the Jackson Heart Study (PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER, Room 122 A-B (100 Level)) -  Mar 15, 2020 - Abstract #ATS2020ATS_4140;
    Twenty-six proteins were associated with FEV1 in both JHS and FHS, potentially implicating shared biologic mechanisms in persons of African and European ancestry. JHS-specific findings must be validated in an independent AA cohort, and may highlight molecular targets and pathways that are particularly relevant to COPD in AAs.
  • ||||||||||  Sepsis Phenotypes and the Effect of Antithrombin III (PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER, Room 113 B-C (100 Level)) -  Mar 15, 2020 - Abstract #ATS2020ATS_3982;
    We found four potential sepsis phenotypes in terms of infection and coagulation, and the effect of AT III varied across phenotypes. Our findings should facilitate further investigations to identify phenotypes that may receive the beneficial effect of AT III, preceding to large trials.
  • ||||||||||  Vitreous Proteome profile of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and idiopathic macular hole (IMH): a comparative analysis (Exhibit Hall: Posterboard# B0241) -  Mar 9, 2020 - Abstract #ARVO2020ARVO_5782;
    It is said that studying the entire human proteome related to various diseases may help us in detecting characteristic disease-specific signatures and explain differences in disease progression patterns and varied treatment responses across patient groups. The expected outcome of this research is the identification of novel pathogenic targets in DR which can be used for development of new drug/ treatment strategies in future.

  • ||||||||||  fondaparinux / Generic mfg.
    Clinical, Journal:  The clinical use of Fondaparinux: A synthetic heparin pentasaccharide. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 22, 2020
    Clinically, Fondaparinux is used for the prevention of deep vein thrombosis in patients who have had orthopedic surgery as well as for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism with limitations of use in elderly, low weight, renal impaired patients and in those receiving spinal anesthesia. Clinical studies showed that Fondaparinux acts in prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism and in ischemic heart disease without significant risk of bleeding.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Is tri-iodothyronine a better choice than activated protein C in sepsis treatment? (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 21, 2020
    We observed that the T3 hormone has significantly limited and reduced the sepsis-related damage to hepatic and intestinal tissues, but especially the lung tissue. Tri-iodothyronine can be a good alternative to APC, which is partially allowed due to high cost and complication of bleeding in the treatment of sepsis.
  • ||||||||||  rivaroxaban / Generic mfg.
    Preclinical, Journal:  Rivaroxaban Promotes Reduction of Embolus Size within Cerebrocortical Microvessels in a Mouse Model of Embolic Stroke. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 16, 2020
    No significant differences between the two groups were observed in the serum levels of the following coagulation markers: thrombin-antithrombin III complexes, D-dimers, or plasmin-α2-plasmin inhibitor complex. Our findings indicate that rivaroxaban may promote reduction in the size of stagnated fibrin emboli in cerebrocortical microvessels in cases of embolic stroke.

    Structural motifs of heparin and low molecular weight heparin binding to anticoagulant proteins by pull-down assay (Exhibit Hall A, Pennsylvania Convention Center) -  Feb 13, 2020 - Abstract #ACSSp2020ACS_Sp_3933;
    Arixtra (Fondaparinux Sodium) is an ultra-low anticoagulant drug, which is a pentasaccharide that can be directly detected by Orbitrap MS was first tested with antithrombin III (AT-III) to confirm this method is working well...The results showed that there were many differences between low-binding and high-binding oligosaccharides. This method is high-throughput, efficient, reproducible and can be introduced to multiple proteins, thus results in a generation of a purified specific protein binding HP/LMWH oligosaccharides for structural characterization.
  • ||||||||||  aspirin / Generic mfg., clopidogrel / Generic mfg.
    Biomarker, Clinical, Journal:  Correlation of Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Biomarkers With Platelet Reactivity in Coronary Artery Disease. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 7, 2020
    In CAD, low response to aspirin was significantly correlated with age older than 65 years, smoking, presence of diabetes mellitus, body mass index I >25, hypertension, previous aspirin treatment, and only in unstable angina with male sex. Low response to aspirin was also statistically associated with low response to clopidogrel, high mean platelets volume, high von Willebrand factor activity, low flow-mediated vasodilation, and low total antioxidant status values.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Journal:  Antithrombin III expression predicts acute kidney injury in elderly patients with sepsis. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 6, 2020
    By comparison, the ICU stay was significantly lower in the high-ATIII group [P=0.020 (69.95%) and 0.049 (55.7%)] and off mechanical ventilation time, off continuous renal replacement therapy time and survival time were significantly higher in the high ATIII group [P=0.049, 0.048, and 0.014, respectively (66.95%); and P=0.041, 0.036, and 0.021, respectively (55.7%)]. The current study indicated that ATIII serum level predicts AKI in elderly patients with sepsis, and that low ATIII levels predicted a poorer prognosis.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Prevalence of thrombophilic conditions and genetic carrier status in neuroischaemic form of diabetic foot (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 18, 2020
    Patients should undergo routine duplex sonography after extracorporeal membrane oxygenation to detect thrombosis formation in the cannulated vessel. The examined patients were diagnosed as having TC or TAGCS, as well as their combinations in one form or another, thus increasing the risk for the development of thromboses and embolisms in such patients.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Comparative Proteomic Analysis of Serum from Pigs Experimentally Infected with Trichinella spiralis, Trichinella britovi, and Trichinella pseudospiralis. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 18, 2020
    Depending on the Trichinella species triggering the infection and the time point of serum collection, they were IgM heavy-chain constant region, antithrombin III-precursor, immunoglobulin gamma-chain, clusterin, homeobox protein Mohawk, apolipoprotein E precursor, serum amyloid P-component precursor, Ig lambda chains, complement C3 isoform X1, and apolipoprotein A-I. Our results demonstrate that various Trichinella species and different phases of the invasion produce a distinct, characteristic proteomic pattern in the serum of experimentally infected pigs.
  • ||||||||||  Rubeosis Iridis - Beyond ROP () -  Jan 5, 2020 - Abstract #AIOC2020AIOC_590;
    RESULTS : Ruling out causes like retinoblastoma and ROP we attributed rubeosis iridis to a combination of Persistent Pupillary Membrane and hereditary thrombophilia. CONCLUSION : Though ROP remains the most common cause of rubeosis iridis in a preterm neonate, it is unlikely to occur on the first day of life compelling us to think of other rare causes.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Stability of plasma proteins and factors in Chinese universal pooled plasma. (Pubmed Central) -  Dec 23, 2019
    A higher IgM anticardiolipin antibody level may be one of the causative factors behind aneurysm development and may have the clinical potential to be used as a biomarker to predict the development of aneurysms in atherosclerotic arterial disease. A uniform level of plasma proteins and factors in CUPP appears to support establishment of a precise dose of plasma.

    [VIRTUAL] UNEXPECTED ETIOLOGY OF ACUTE PULMONARY HYPERTENSION IN A NEONATE (eAbstract Virtual Hall) -  Dec 22, 2019 - Abstract #ACC2020ACC_5624;
    Interestingly, several cases have been reported in young adults (age 20’s-40’s) in which interrupted IVC was incidentally diagnosed during evaluation for unprovoked PE. Together, this may suggest a need for further investigation of interrupted IVC with azygous continuation as a risk factor for life-threatening thromboemboli.
  • ||||||||||  Dynamics of antithrombin III and protein C in patients with burn injury, depending on the outcome (Industry Exhibition/Foyer) -  Dec 17, 2019 - Abstract #GTH2020GTH_294;
    Together, this may suggest a need for further investigation of interrupted IVC with azygous continuation as a risk factor for life-threatening thromboemboli. Thus, the data obtained indicate that burn patients with an unfavorable outcome show a significant decrease in anticoagulants, which leads to thrombosis, impaired microcirculation, hypoperfusion and, ultimately, to multiple organ failure and death.
