  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Sulfated Polysaccharides with Anticoagulant Potential: A Review Focusing on Structure-Activity Relationship and Action Mechanism. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 11, 2024
    The anticoagulant activity of sulfated polysaccharides is linked to the substitution site of sulfate groups, degree of substitution, molecular weight, main side chain structure, and glycosidic bond conformation. Moreover, sulfated polysaccharides exert anticoagulant activity via various pathways, including the inhibition of blood coagulation factors, activation of antithrombin III and heparin cofactor II, antiplatelet aggregation, and promotion of the fibrinolytic system.

    Moreover, sulfated polysaccharides exert anticoagulant activity via various pathways, including the inhibition of blood coagulation factors, activation of antithrombin III and heparin cofactor II, antiplatelet aggregation, and promotion of the fibrinolytic system. This case introduces a novel perspective on the etiology of cerebral WMLs, suggesting that hereditary antithrombin deficiency (ATD) could contribute to altered blood composition and may serve as an underlying cause in certain individuals with asymptomatic WMLs.
  • ||||||||||  Influence of Dialysis Clinical Operational Conditions on (SUN-202; Exhibition Hall and Main Foyer) -  Mar 8, 2024 - Abstract #ISNWCN2024ISN_WCN_1331;
    declined. These findings emphasize the role of hydrodynamic conditions in influencing biomarker release, with lower flow rates triggering more adverse responses compared to higher flow rates.
  • ||||||||||  ELEVATED PROTEIN C IS PROTECTIVE AGAINST POST THROMBOTIC SYNDROME (Riverwalk AB; Virtual) -  Mar 2, 2024 - Abstract #THSNA2024THSNA_75;
    Conversely, decreased levels of protein C and S were associated with higher rates of infection and inflammation and subsequently with poorer thrombus outcomes. More work is necessary to further explore thrombus outcomes relative to levels of protein C and protein S.

    Journal, Surgery:  The significance of glycocalyx in surgery. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 25, 2024
    Dynamic monitoring of vWF is helpful to predict the occurrence of VTE in ICU patients, and vWF at 48 hours after ICU admission has certain value in predicting the occurrence of VTE. Further research needs to be performed to evaluate the effect of endothelium-protectives on glycocalyx damage prevention and repair in ischaemia and reperfusion models involving large laboratory animals or in clinical trials in patients undergoing surgical revascularisation procedures.
  • ||||||||||  That Really 'Blows': Cocaine-Associated Ascending Aortic Thrombus (San Diego Convention Center, Area K (Hall H, Ground Level)) -  Feb 20, 2024 - Abstract #ATS2024ATS_6041;
    Unfortunately, our patient did not have previous imaging to assess for presence of aneurysm or aortic calcifications to suggest presence of atherosclerotic disease. Given the ubiquity of cocaine use and the potentially disastrous complications of aortic thrombi, the relationship between the two warrants further investigation.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  The Inhibition of Serine Proteases by Serpins Is Augmented by Negatively Charged Heparin: A Concise Review of Some Clinically Relevant Interactions. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 14, 2024
    The goal of this review is to discuss some of the clinically relevant serine protease-serpin interactions that may be enhanced by heparin or other negatively charged polysaccharides. The paired serine protease-serpin in the framework of heparin that we review includes the following: thrombin-antithrombin III, plasmin-anti-plasmin, C1 esterase/kallikrein-C1 esterase inhibitor, and furin/TMPRSS2 (serine protease Transmembrane Protease 2)-alpha-1-antitrypsin, with the latter in the context of COVID-19 and prostate cancer.

  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Hemostasis disorders in patients with systemic AL-amyloidosis (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 6, 2024
    The relationship of hemorrhages on the skin with nephrotic syndrome has been established, which may indicate a single pathogenetic mechanism. Cutaneous hemorrhagic syndrome is associated with hypercoagulable shifts in hemostasis and a high risk of thrombotic complications.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Coagulation Parameters in Post-Covid-19 Condition in Relation to Various Titers of Anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG in Blood Plasma. (Pubmed Central) -  Dec 29, 2023
    We found that concentrations and activities of key anticoagulation parameters (ATIII, PC, and TM) measured in donor plasma during the post-COVID-19 varied in relation to the titers of anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG. While we identified a dysfunction of anticoagulation parameters in patients with post-COVID-19, we aim to explore the subpopulation antibody IgG fraction directly using in vivo and in vitro experiments with the possibility to contribute to the development of treatment options for post-COVID-19 conditions.

    Review, Journal:  Veno-venous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: Anesthetic Considerations in Clinical Practice. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 29, 2023
    However, its main advantage lies in the identification of straightforward argatroban protocols through interviews, as well as the discovery, via PubMed, of the usefulness of TEE in determining cannula position and contractility estimates for transitioning from VA-ECMO to VV-ECMO. Additionally, we emphasize the benefits in terms of morbidity and mortality of a seldom-discussed sedation supplement, quetiapine, to dexmedetomidine.
  • ||||||||||  R MCA Infarction Caused by Underlying Hypercoagulable State: a Case Report () -  Nov 16, 2023 - Abstract #AAPMR2023AAPMR_473;
    We recommend increased vigilance in patients manifesting any mild neurological symptoms and early decision about the MRI study performance. Underlying hypercoagulable state combined with underlying connective tissue disorder predisposes risk of embolic events with lasting adverse effects.

    Thromboprophylaxis with Intermediate Dose Low Molecular Weight Heparin in Adults Undergoing Induction with L-Asparaginase for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (SDCC - Halls G-H) -  Nov 3, 2023 - Abstract #ASH2023ASH_3778;
    Methods This retrospective chart review included 62 patients who received prophylactic anticoagulation with the LMWH enoxaparin (1mg/kg/day) while undergoing induction chemotherapy with L-asparaginase for ALL at the Oregon Health & Science University from 2012 to present...Our institutional rate of 6.5% of patients experiencing thrombotic events during induction with L-asparaginase, with all of the events being clinically low risk, compares favorably to historically reported rates in adults and approaches the low rates reported in children. Further prospective research is warranted.
  • ||||||||||  paclitaxel / Generic mfg.
    Journal:  Effect of Paclitaxel on the Hemostatic Potential of the Blood in the Experiment. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 9, 2023
    On days 7-30 after paclitaxel administration, decompensation of its anticoagulant activity due to paclitaxel-induced damage to the endothelium was observed with the formation of a procoagulant status of the hemostatic potential of the blood. A single administration of the maximum tolerated dose of paclitaxel forms a powerful thrombogenic stimulus during the first week and provides a long-term/trace procoagulant shift in the hemostasis system (days 10-30).
