Although HD may have been useful, the ultimate decision to transcutaneously pace then transfer the patient for permanent pacemaker placement is consistent with treatment recommendations for heart block and symptomatic SND.

This report hopes to add to the literature by discussing potential etiologies of catatonia and by providing an illustrative example of the treatment of catatonia and its considerations in patients with hepatic impairment.

Ultimately, more research is needed to study this rare illness to standardize procedures for treatment of malignant catatonia.
