Review, Journal, Adverse events: Systemic side effects of locally administered corticosteroids (Pubmed Central) - Oct 9, 2024 Certain agents, such as fluticasone inhaler or budesonide nasal spray, have an increased risk of systemic side effects. By switching to an alternative, if the case permits it, the risk of systemic side effects can be reduced.

Journal: Redundancy of Pharmacologic Ingredients in Over-the-Counter Nasal Sprays. (Pubmed Central) - Oct 2, 2024 The active ingredients included in our analysis were oxymetazoline, phenylephrine, fluticasone, triamcinolone, budesonide, azelastine, cromolyn sodium, and mometasone...These findings suggest that there are widespread redundancies in the OTC nasal spray market. Clinician should be aware of the redundancy in OTC formulations and encourage patients to read the labels in order to make informed decisions regarding their use of OTC medications.

Delayed diagnosis of foreign body aspiration in children: complications and treatment (PS-20; Poster board no. 13) - May 31, 2024 - Abstract #ERS2024ERS_675; Before FBA was diagnosed, frequent complaints were persistent cough (n=9), recurrent respiratory infections (n=7) and fever (n=6); patients were treated with short-acting beta-agonists (n=7), antibiotics (n=6) and fluticasone metered dose inhalation (n=3)...Our experiences emphasize the utility of a prolonged course of steroids and antibiotics as a preparatory measure for FB removal in case of a delayed diagnosis. The accumulation of additional cases will contribute to best practices in managing FBA in children.

DAILY OR TWICE DAILY TREATMENT WITH TOPICAL STEROIDS RESULTS IN SIMILAR RESPONSE IN EOSINOPHILIC ESOPHAGITIS (Hall A, Poster Hall - Walter E. Washington Convention Center) - Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_908; Patients on twice daily dosing were more frequently prescribed fluticasone (36% vs. 18%; p trend < 0.001) and had a higher mean daily steroid dose (1706 mcg vs. 1519 mcg; p = 0.01) (Table 2)...These results can help patients and providers decide how to best take a tCS and to be assured that either regimen is effective. Moreover, given comparable efficacy, a once daily total dose, rather than divided dose, could be considered to increase adherence while reducing the risk for candidal esophagitis.
