In a recently completed real-world, Phase IV study of ESL taken as a first adjunctive therapy with levetiracetam or lamotrigine monotherapy, or as later adjunctive therapy in treatment-resistant patients with focal seizures, psychiatric disorder treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) were reported in 22 of 102 patients in the safety population (21.6%). Psychiatric disorder TEAEs were more frequent, and tended to be reported earlier, in patients receiving adjunctive ESL as later therapy for focal seizures compared with patients receiving ESL as the first adjunctive therapy.

Lamotrigine N2-glucuronide was the most abundant metabolite in the urine in humanised-liver mice, similar to that reported in humans; whereas, lamotrigine N2-oxide was predominantly excreted in the urine in NOG-TKm30 mouse.These results suggest that humanised-liver mice may be suitable animal model for studying the UGT1A4 mediated-lamotrigine metabolism.

Whether Covid 19 infection can trigger TEN in pediatrics patient is an important question that needs larger studies, yet it is worth reporting this case of possible correlation between Covid 19 and TEN in pediatrics.

Pitch perception modifications are among the little-known adverse effects observed with antiepileptics, mainly affecting patients treated with carbamazepine (CBZ)...In the French pharmacovigilance database, only one other case of pitch perception modification under CBZ was recorded (no cases were found with oxcarbazepine, lacosamide, sodium valproate, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone, ethosuximide, vigabatrine, felbamate, gabapentin, tiagabine and topiramate)...A rapid onset after the introduction of treatment, a complete resolution of symptoms, in most cases upon discontinuation of treatment, is observed, with no sequelae reported. Due to the impact on quality of life, especially in patients whose profession is related to music, knowledge of this adverse event seems important to evoke this diagnosis.
