    A timely diagnosis with subsequent effective prophylactic treatment, such as lithium, may prevent poor functional outcomes in real-world patients with BD. Lithium may be associated with increased hippocampal volume in BD, potentially due to its putative neurotrophic action, but further research is needed better define the morphological alterations of hippocampus in BD and the longitudinal effects of lithium in the short and long-term.

    In patients with a clinical history characterized by severe and repeated manic episodes, it is advisable to combine LTG with an antimanic agent (e.g. lithium or second generation antipsychotic) even in the maintenance phase. Lamotrigine is a valid therapeutic option in the long-term prevention and stabilization of the depressive phases in patients with bipolar I disorder.

    The combination of an antidepressant plus an antipsychotic was the most commonly prescribed regimen at the completion of ECT for relapse prevention in patients with psychotic depression acutely treated with ECT. Although this report offers a view of the clinical practice of 4 academic medical centers, it also points to the need of randomized controlled trials on continuation pharmacotherapy after treatment of psychotic depression with ECT.

    After improvement in hypercalcemia and unsuccessful indapamide treatment, triamterene was administrated to control polyuria...Lithium enters the collecting duct's principal cells mainly via the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) located on their apical membranes, ENaC shows high selectivity for both sodium and lithium, is upregulated by aldosterone, and inhibited by triamterene. To our knowledge, this is the first publication on triamterene use in lithium-induced NDI patients.

    With this rationale, quetiapine can be listed as a first line treatment for anxiety disorders comorbidity in bipolar disorders while serotonergic antidepressants and olanzapine are recommended as second line options...However, both treatment agents might cause to manic switch and mood destabilization. Thus, clinicians should be aware of these complications when prescribing in bipolar disorders comorbidity.

    Ultimately, our simulations show that Li inhibition is driven by decreasing the phosphorylation reaction rate, rather than reducing catalytic turnover through tight binding to different GSK-3β states like Be inhibition. The effect of these metals derive from electrostatic differences and especially their smaller atomic radii compared to the native Mg and thus provide insight for the development of GSK-3β inhibitors based on other paradigms.

Overall, despite significant advances using these novel models, much more work remains to fully understand the mechanisms by which these disorders affect the patients' brains.

    Podocyte hypertrophy was detected, the width of foot process and glomerular membrane were increased. The number of fenestrae was decreased and cell hypertrophy was developed in the structure endothelium of glomerular capillary. Lithium carbonate had some protective effect on podocytes, but caused a significant hypertrophy of endotheliocytes leading to glomerular capillary occlusion.

    Polygenic scores for TRD (HR=0.97, 95% CI [0.75, 1.24], p=0.80) and MDD (HR=0.85, 95% CI [0.68, 1.07], p=0.17) did not significantly predict lithium response. Our preliminary results suggest that individuals with treatment-resistant MDD who carry a higher polygenic burden for SCZ and BIP are more likely to respond to lithium augmentation and that lithium treatment outcomes in MDD might be influenced by similar genetic factors as response to lithium in bipolar disorder.
