    Review, Journal:  Effects of fluoxetine on fish: What do we know and where should we focus our efforts in the future? (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 19, 2022
    We conclude that environmentally relevant concentrations of fluoxetine (e.g., from 0.00345 μg/L) produced adverse effects and often this concentration range is not addressed in conventional environmental risk assessment strategies. Its environmental persistence and ionizable properties reinforce the need for standardized testing with representative aquatic models, targeting endpoints sensitive to the specific mode of action of fluoxetine, in order to assess and rank its actual environmental risk to aquatic ecosystems.

    Treating the depression or the disease? Pseudo-Trial with the UK MS Register (ePoster Area) -  Oct 18, 2022 - Abstract #ECTRIMS2022ECTRIMS_1310;
    There was a significant difference in worsening (p=0.028); notably fluoxetine was more likely to have worse outcomes and Sertraline better outcomes compared to control. Preliminary studies in repurposing antidepressants to treat the symptoms of MS in this 'pseudo-trial' show a promising signal for further testing Sertraline in clinical trials.

    Journal:  Physical exercise prevents behavioral alterations in a reserpine-treated zebrafish: A putative depression model. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 18, 2022
    We also evaluated the influence of exposure to fluoxetine, a well-known antidepressant, on the behavior of reserpine-exposed animals...Physical exercise was able to prevent the changes in dopamine and serotonin levels, reinforcing that the preventive effect promoted by physical exercise is related to the modulation of neurotransmitter levels. Our findings showed that reserpine was effective in the induction of a putative depression model in zebrafish and that physical exercise may be an alternative to prevent the effects induced by reserpine.

    Preclinical, Journal:  Paeoniflorin exhibits antidepressant activity in rats with postpartum depression via the TSPO and BDNF‑mTOR pathways. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 18, 2022
    PPD rat models were prepared by withdrawing hormone‑simulated pregnancy (HSP), and subjects were treated with paeoniflorin and fluoxetine or plasmids...A radioimmunoassay was utilized for estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) measurements...Furthermore, suppression of TSPO or the BDNF‑mTOR pathway partially reversed the effects of paeoniflorin on depression‑like behaviors, hormone levels, and inflammatory cytokine release. Paeoniflorin may improve symptoms of PPD by regulating the TSPO and BDNF‑mTOR pathways, indicating that paeoniflorin may be an effective anti‑PPD and antidepressant drug, providing evidence for the future treatment of PPD.

    Preclinical, Journal:  Mechanism of lily bulb and Rehmannia decoction in the treatment of lipopolysaccharide-induced depression-like rats based on metabolomics study and network pharmacology. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 14, 2022
    After the administration of LBRD (90 g/kg) and fluoxetine (2 mg/kg) for 14 days, we assessed behaviour and the levels of neurotransmitter, inflammatory cytokine and circulating stress hormone...Followed by LBRD treatment, the main metabolites in prefrontal tissue were contributed to retrograde endocannabinoid signalling, glycerophospholipid metabolism, glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchor biosynthesis, autophagy signal pathway, etc. LBRD were effective at increasing neurotransmitter, attenuating proinflammatory cytokine and regulating glycerophospholipid metabolism and glutamatergic synapse, thereby ameliorating depressive phenotypes. This research will offer reference for elucidating the metabolomic mechanism underlying novel antidepressant agents contained LBRD formula.

    Augmentation strategy fluoxetine and lurasidone in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder with comorbid restrictive anorexia nervosa – a case report (Poster area [IN-PERSON]) -  Oct 13, 2022 - Abstract #ECNP2022ECNP_920;
    Lurasidone is a second-generation antipsychotic with good efficacy and lower metabolic and cardiovascular side effects if compared with other SGAs, but there is currently brief experience about its use in treatment of OCD, especially whereas comorbid anorexia nervosa- restrictive type (AN-r) is present. Objective: This Case Report presents the effect of augmentation strategy with lurasidone (37 mg daily bedtime) in a 45-years old woman with a relapse episode of severe OCD with comorbid AN-r, previously treated with combined fluoxetine and olanzapine treatment, subsequently interrupted.  During the first visit to our psychiatric clinic the patient was provided self- and hetero-administered assessment with Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS-II), Clinical Global Impression-Severity (CGI-S), Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) and Eating Disorder Inventory-3 (EDI-3)...The management of this clinical case demonstrates a possible indication of lurasidone as augmentation strategy in tr-OCD. Nevertheless, further longitudinal and real-world effectiveness studies are needed to confirm effectiveness in attenuating OC symptomatology, in tr-OCD and whereas a comorbid AN-r is present.
