Combining GCV with the excipients quercetin and P188 effectively ameliorated CMV-induced sensorineural hearing loss in a murine model. This result may be partially explained by a reduction in viral titers in mouse temporal bones that correlate with in vitro studies demonstrating additive antiviral effect in cell culture.

Retinal detachment occurred in one eye (0.9%), endophthalmitis in one eye (0.9%), and transient intravitreal hemorrhage occurred in three eyes (2.7%) after the IDI injections. On the whole, the present study demonstrates that although IDI is mostly employed in non-infectious uveitic eyes with macular edema, it can also be administered in cases with systemic therapy intolerance, pseudophakic macular edema prophylaxis, and with great caution, in selected cases involving infectious uveitis and macular edema.

Case Description/ A 56-year-old male with a known history of UC on adalimumab presents with intractable, non-bloody watery diarrhea, and recurrent subjective fevers over the past week after returning from a cruise to Puerto Rico...Symptoms persisted despite a 10-day course of piperacillin-tazobactam...The patient was started on IV ganciclovir, but continued to have recurrent daily fevers and persistent diarrhea...He was eventually discharged on home oral valganciclovir and oral high-dose steroids...Steroids are generally avoided in infectious management, however our patient required high dose steroids in addition to antivirals to counteract an ongoing UC flare. This multimodal treatment regimen optimized our patient's response to simultaneous colitis etiologies.
