To investigate the potential for cell transplantation in FSHD, we have used the doxycycline-regulated iDUX4pA-HSA mouse model in which low-level DUX4 can be induced in skeletal muscle...Donor-derived muscle tissue displayed reduced fibrosis and importantly, engrafted muscles showed improved contractile specific force compared to non-transplanted controls. These data demonstrate the feasibility of replacement of diseased muscle with PSC-derived myogenic progenitors in a mouse model for FSHD, and highlight the potential for the clinical benefit of such a cell therapy approach.

Sixty Wistar rats were divided into four groups: positive control group (mucoadhesive patch with doxycycline), negative control group (mucoadhesive patch), treatment group I (mucoadhesive patch with mangosteen rind extract), and treatment group II (mucoadhesive patch with nano-emulsion of mangosteen rind extract)...The mucoadhesive patch with nano-emulsion mangosteen rind extract significantly decreased TNF-α and RANKL expression and increased IL-10 expression (p < 0.05) compared to the treatment I, positive and negative control groups. A mucoadhesive gingival patch with nano-emulsion of mangosteen rind extract has the potential to treat periodontitis by decreasing TNF-α, RANKL, and increasing IL-10 expression.

This study adds to our understanding of Salmonella Heidelberg transmission along the food-chain and informs ongoing regulatory discussions on Salmonella Heidelberg in poultry.

Here, we tested if either transgenic (Tg) doxycycline-induced expression in adipose tissue of E4orf1 (E4), an adenoviral protein, or dietary fat restriction attenuated hepatic steatosis or its progression in mice...Interestingly, in spite of weight loss and lower liver fat, chow mice showed significant upregulation of hepatic genes involved in lipid metabolism. Despite HFD, E4 prevents hepatic lipid accumulation and progression of hepatic steatosis, while diet reversal maintains hepatic health, but is unable to improve molecular changes.

These results provided us the actual levels of antibiotics in cultured fish and human health risk assessment of consuming fishery products.

We also predict that K. pneumoniae ST65 has an ability to acquire genetic mobile element from other bacteria, which would allow Klebsiella to become an even greater public health concern.

The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of linezolid (LZD), amikacin (AMK), ceftriaxone/sulbactam (CRO/SBT), cefotaxime/sulbactam (CTX/SBT), piperacillin/sulbactam (PIP/SBT), doxycycline (DOX), levofloxacin (LVX), amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium (7 : 1, AK71), imipenem (IPM), azithromycin (AZM), and their combinations with LYS were determined with tuber twice dilution...LYS and AZM inhibited the biofilm formation of one MRSA strain, but they and LVX had no similar activities against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (MRSE) or vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREF)...The combinations of PIP/SBT+LYS, AMK+LYS, and LZD+LYS showed stronger antibiofilm activities against MRSA 62, MRSE 62, MRSE 63, and VREF 11. The antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities of LYS against MRSA were better than AZM, while that of LYS against MRSE and VREF, respectively, was similar with AZM and LVX.
