    Review, Journal:  Pharmacologic Enhancement of Rotator Cuff Repair: A Narrative Review. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 11, 2022
    The purpose of this study is to review the current understanding of Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs), Doxycycline, Testosterone, Estrogen, Growth hormone/ IGF-1, Vitamin D, and Vitamin C as a means to mitigate deleterious effects and propagate factors that support healing following RCR...Patients with Vitamin D deficiency have shown to have increased fatty infiltration in rotator cuff muscle while Vitamin C functions as an antioxidant that increases collagen and fibroblast proliferation. As manipulation of pharmacologic factors shows potential for enhancing healing following RCRs, future studies are needed to establish a viable augmentation strategy to improve patient outcomes.
  • ||||||||||  NOCARDIA TSUKAMURELLA: AN ATYPICAL PNEUMONIA (Convention Center Exhibit Hall: Rapid Area 4D) -  Sep 11, 2022 - Abstract #CHEST2022CHEST_4194;
    The symptoms can very easily resemble TB therefore a high clinical suspicion should be present for proper diagnosis and to save from prolonged course of unnecessary RIPE therapy, and its associated high risk side effect profile. Additionally, more research into learning about this pathogen is required to better understand, diagnose and thereby treat this infection effectively.

    Journal:  Tetracycline-induced mitohormesis mediates disease tolerance against influenza. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 10, 2022
    Tolerance to IFV infection is associated with the induction of genes involved in lung epithelial cell and cilia function, and with down-regulation of inflammatory and immune gene sets in lungs, liver, and kidneys. Mitohormesis induced by non-antimicrobial tetracyclines and the ensuing IFN response may dampen excessive inflammation and tissue damage during viral infections, opening innovative therapeutic avenues.

    Review, Journal:  Doxycycline as an antimalarial: Impact on travellers' diarrhoea and doxycycline resistance among various stool bacteria - Prospective study and literature review. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 10, 2022
    Our findings suggest that new therapeutic strategies are warranted to combat MDR pathogens due to the emergence of many PMB clinical strains. Our prospective data and the literature review together suggest the following: 1) doxycycline does not prevent TD; 2) doxycycline use favours acquisition of doxy/tetracycline-co-resistant intestinal bacteria; 3) although doxycycline does not predispose to travel-related ESBL-PE acquisition per se, it selects ESBL-PE strains co-resistant to doxycycline; 4) doxycycline resistance rates are high among stool bacteria in general with no evidence of any tendency to decrease.
