The frequency of isolation of A. baumannii strains producing two different types of ?-lactamases (AmpC plus KPC, AmpC plus ESBL, or ESBL plus KPC) or three types of ?-lactamases (AmpC, KPC, and ESBL) and the resistance rates to ampicillin/sulbactam, tigecycline, tetracycline, and doxycycline were significantly greater in 2020-2021 as compared with 2016-2017. The production of two or three types of ?-lactamases by A. baumannii strains was associated with higher resistance rates to tetracyclines.

A20-iMacs displayed morphology, phenotype, and phagocytic activity typical of macrophages, and they displayed upregulated A20 expression in response to doxycycline...The study for the first time developed a model for generating macrophages with an inducible expression of a target gene and identified the peculiarities of A20 expression in macrophages that likely underlie macrophage preparedness for inflammatory reactivity. It also suggested the possibility of mitigating inflammatory macrophage responses via A20 overexpression.

While only one derivative was found to (weakly) enhance the action of erythromycin against E. coli, three examples, including 15c, were found to be strong enhancers of the antibiotic action of doxycycline against P. aeruginosa. Collectively, these results highlight the promising potential of ?,?-disubstituted indole-3-acetamido polyamine conjugates as antimicrobials and antibiotic adjuvants.
