To assess sensitivity to change, 53 patients with erythema migrans completed the GSQ-30 before treatment and 6 months after 3 weeks of treatment with doxycycline...The GSQ-30 should prove useful in clinical and research settings to assess multi-system symptom burden and to monitor change over time. The GSQ-30 may also prove useful in future precision medicine studies as a clinical measure to correlate with disease-relevant biomarkers.

The isolate was susceptible to clarithromycin and amikacin, had intermediate susceptibility to ciprofloxacin, cefoxitin and linezolid and was resistant to doxycycline, imipenem, cotrimoxazole and moxifloxacin...The patient received a total of 12 weeks of oral clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily, 4 weeks of intravenous amikacin 500 mg daily, 6 weeks of intravenous tigecycline 100 mg over 24 hours via Baxter pump, and 4 weeks of oral clofazimine 100 mg daily...abscessus cutaneous infection in an immunocompetent individual without antecedent trauma or surgery is rare. Our case illustrates the successful treatment of a deep M. abscessus cutaneous ulcer with relatively short duration macrolide-based antibiotic therapy without any surgical intervention.

Our case illustrates the successful treatment of a deep M. abscessus cutaneous ulcer with relatively short duration macrolide-based antibiotic therapy without any surgical intervention. The ability of zinc-loaded nanogels to promote dentin mineralization may offer new strategies for regeneration of eroded cervical dentin and effective treatment of dentin hypersensitivity.

Tetracyclines (including demeclocycline, DMCT, or doxycycline, DOTC) represent a class of dual-action antibacterial compounds, which can act as antibiotics in the dark, and also as photosensitizers under illumination with blue or UVA light...Both E. coli and MRSA could be killed by tetracyclines plus light in the absence of oxygen and this killing was not quenched by azide. A mouse model of a superficial wound infection caused by bioluminescent E. coli could be treated by topical application of DMCT and blue light and bacterial regrowth did not occur owing to the continued anti biotic activity of the tetracycline.

When tested on other PTPs, PTP1B and SHP1, it was found that the tetracycline PTP1B, SHP1, the tetracycline variant (doxycycline), and the sulfonated azo dye (Congo red) are selective inhibitors of Sts-1, with selectivity indices ranging from 19 to as high as 200...Mutation of either tryptophan 494 or tyrosine 596, located near the active site of the protein, reduced the Ki of the inhibitors from 3- to 18-fold, indicating that these residues may help promote binding of substrates with aromatic groups. This work provides new insights into substrate selectivity mechanisms and describes two classes of compounds that can serve as probes of function or as a basis for future drug discovery.

The use of re-purposed FDA-approved drugs will undoubtedly help to accelerate the clinical evaluation of this approach, as these drugs can move directly into Phase II clinical trials, saving considerable amounts of time (10-15 y) and billions in financial resources.

Although no statistical results are provided because of the small sample size, we have identified several drug combinations that show promising clinical response for patients with HS based on their IHS4 score, such as isotretinoin/spironolactone for mild disease, isotretinoin or doxycycline with adalimumab for moderate disease, and cyclosporine/adalimumab for severe disease. This preliminary work demonstrates that HS treatment with combination therapy appears to be a promising method of disease management.

A 2-week treatment with ceftriaxone followed by a 12-week regimen of doxycycline or clarithromycin/hydroxychloroquine did not lead to better cognitive performance compared to a 2-week regimen of ceftriaxone in patients with Lyme disease-attributed persistent symptoms.

In addition, the distribution of target ARGs was associated with the residual concentrations of doxycycline (DOX), sulfamethazine (SM2), enrofloxacin (ENR) and tylosin (TYL)...The resistance rates of ARB were 17.79%-83.70% for SM2, followed 0.40%-63.77% for TYL, 0.36%-43.90% for DOX and 0.00%-13.36% for ENR, which showed a significant dose-effect. This study also demonstrated that the abundance of clinically relevant ARB and ARGs in chicken, swine and cow fresh manures significantly greater than that in composted manures, and chicken and swine manures had higher proportion of ARB and higher abundance of ARGs than that in cow manures.

The second isolate showed a high MIC value of 4 µg/mL for moxifloxacin, which was associated with a confirmed single-point mutation in the quinolone resistance-determining region (QRDR) of the gyrA gene. Although there was no significant increase in the antibiotic resistance among the oral bacterial isolates tested, the detection of resistant P. gingivalis isolates underlines the need to optimize the antibiotic therapeutic protocols in dentistry.
