Until future studies provide further insight, it would be prudent for physicians tapering benzodiazepine regimens to follow a conservative approach.

...METHODS Using recent reviews of thiazide-like (chlorthalidone or indapamide) and thiazide-type diuretics (hydrochlorothiazide and bendrofluazide) and a separate search of bendrofluazide, data on cardiovascular disease outcomes was extracted...Chlorthalidone was significantly more effective for some cardiovascular disease outcomes when compared with doxazosin, amlodipine and lisinopril...Of the diuretics available in New Zealand for hypertension, only chlorthalidone has been shown to be more effective than other blood pressure-lowering medicines. It may be time to change from using bendrofluazide and start using chlorthalidone as a treatment for hypertension.

Microscopic colitis has been associated with excessive fluid loss and malabsorption caused by the inflammation and can easily result in dehydration, dizziness and weight loss affecting quality of life.

There are newer well tolerated all- oral DAA agents, such as glecaprevir and pibrentasvir (GLE/PIB)...Case Description/ A 63 year old African American Male with a history of chronic hepatitis C infection (genotype 1a) without cirrhosis and hypertension on chronic lisinopril presented to the Emergency Room (ER) with acute onset facial and lip edema...The underlying mechanism is not known, however it was hypothesized that co-administration with an Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitor may be related. We would recommend avoiding co-administration to prevent the rare but significant side effect, eliminating a potentially curative treatment regimen and the financial aspects of wasted expensive medication and expenses associated with hospitalization.
