Furthermore, intracranial injection of adeno-associated virus carrying antisense of miR-19-3p under a CMV promoter into the neonatal rats significantly alleviated SEVO exposure-induced impairment of neuron cell proliferation, as well as the learning and memory of the rats. Together, our data suggest that SEVO-induced upregulation of miR-19-3p post-transcriptionally inhibits CCNA2, which contributes to the SEVO-associated impairment of learning and memory of the neonatal rats.

These findings indicate pre-treatment with DEX may improve long-term cognitive function and ameliorate the neuronal degeneration induced by sevoflurane exposure in neonatal rats.

Blood samples were collected from the saphenous vein (awake state), tail vein (awake and anesthetized states after administration of sevoflurane or pentobarbital) and the inferior thoracic vena cava (ITVC, anesthetized state)...From the perspective of animal welfare and multiple sampling, the current study shows that the saphenous vein and tail vein are the best locations to collect multiple blood samples for a reduced risk of injury in the awake state. Furthermore, it is also suitable for investigating pharmacokinetics and the effects of drug intervention on animals.

These results suggested that sevoflurane effectively inhibits airway remodeling in mouse model of chronic airway inflammation, which may be due to the downregulation of VEGF and TGF-β1in lung tissues. Therefore, our results indicate a potential role of sevoflurane in inhibiting airway remodeling besides its known suppression effect on airway inflammation, and support the use of sevoflurane in treating severe asthma in ICU.

In order to develop a new method of tracheal intubation in mice, we produced a supraglottic intubation-aid conduit (SIAC) for mice, and tested the efficacy of this device in spontaneously breathing mice anesthetized with sevoflurane inhalation...After refining the size and shape of the SIAC, the success rate of tracheal intubation with the refined prototype of the SIAC was 100% without any serious adverse effects. This study showed that it is possible to produce a supraglottic airway device to aid tracheal intubation in mice and that the shape and size of the SIAC play a crucial role in successful tracheal intubation in mice.

The objective of this study is to compare the effects of paravertebral nerve block-propofol intravenous general anesthesia (PPA) and sevoflurane inhalation general anesthesia (SGA) on the expression of serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) in patients undergoing radical resection of lung cancer.Patients undergoing radical resection of lung cancer were divided into PPA group and SGA group...The dosage of opioids during and 24 h after operation, the pain score at 2, 8, 24, 48, and 72 h after operation, and the concentrations of serum VEGF and TGF-β before and 24 h after operation were observed in the two groups.The intraoperative dosage of remifentanil in PPA group was significantly less than that in SGA group (P < 0.05)...The VAS score at 2, 8, and 24 h after operation was significantly lower than that in SGA group (P < 0.05). The serum VEGF and TGF-β concentration in PPA group was significantly lower than that in SGA group (P < 0.05).Thoracic paravertebral nerve block-propofol intravenous general anesthesia can reduce the dosage of opioids, improve the effect of postoperative analgesia, and reduce the serum concentration of tumor angiogenesis-related factors in patients undergoing radical resection of lung cancer.

Results In both the groups, an increase in heart rate and blood pressure occurred at the time of laryngoscopy and intubation, NS insertion, and extubation, but it was more in Group C ( p < 0.05). In Group D, intraoperative requirement of analgesic, neuromuscular relaxant, and inhalational anesthetic was lesser compared with Group C. Emergence time as well as visual analog scale at emergence was less in Group D. Conclusions Intraoperative Dex infusion is a reasonable choice in patients undergoing transsphenoidal pituitary surgery.

In summary, our findings confirm that the attenuation of luteoline on sevoflurane-induced spatial learning and memory impairment later is associated with inhibition of hippocampal neuron apoptosis, inflammation and oxidative stress early.
