    Preclinical, Journal:  Effects of anesthesia with sevoflurane on outcome parameters in murine experimental studies. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 9, 2024
    Therefore, further studies are required to clarify the effects of different anesthetic drugs. Overall, the inclusion of a control group subjected to the same anesthesia protocol as the experimental groups of interest seems helpful to precisely define the inherent impact of the anesthetic when investigating immuno-pathophysiologic conditions in vivo.

    Retrospective data, Journal:  Cannabis Use and Inhalational Anesthesia Administration in Older Adults: A Propensity Matched Retrospective Cohort Study. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 9, 2024
    Cannabis use was associated with administering statistically significantly higher inhalational anesthetic minimum alveolar concentration equivalents in older adults, but the clinical significance of this difference is unclear. These data do not support the hypothesis that cannabis users require clinically meaningfully higher inhalational anesthetics doses.

    Journal:  Sevoflurane and Propofol Co-affect the Development of Colorectal Cancer by Regulating TM2D1. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 26, 2024
    Our study elucidated that the miR-182-5p/GPX4 pathway was implicated in sevoflurane-induced ototoxicity by promoting ferroptosis. Our results showed a novel anti-tumor mechanism of sevoflurane and propofol in colorectal cancer cells, and TM2D1 might be an underlying therapeutic target for treating colorectal cancer patients.

    First, we applied EMLA cream one hour before the surgery...After the time-out, we administered Fentanyl at a dose of 2 mcg/kg, followed by a propofol bolus of 4 mg/kg and a Remifentanil bolus of 1 mcg/kg...Sevoflurane was also started at an inspiratory level of 4%...However, to cover any potential bacterial cause, the patient received ceftriaxone and erythromycin according to local antibiotic treatment guidelines...A chest X-ray was taken five weeks after the initial anesthesia to assess any signs of lingering pneumonia.Pre-Treatment: The patient will receive pre-treatment with salbutamol/albuterol 24 hours before surgery.Anesthesia Team: A second anesthesiologist will be present throughout the procedure, and all necessary medications (including succinylcholine, intravenous salbutamol/albuterol, magnesium, adrenaline, and esketamine) will be readily available for administration in the operating room.High Alert: The procedure will be promptly canceled at the first indication of any complications.Clinical Admission: Instead of an outpatient setting, the procedure will be performed during a clinical admission.Eight weeks after the initial anesthesia, the tonsillectomy was successfully completed without incident, both during the operation and in the post-surgical period. Furthermore, the patient remains healthy, exhibits no neurological symptoms, and continues to develop similarly to their twin sibling.

    Attention deficits in the TgF344-AD rat model of Alzheimer (Exhibit (Pennsylvania Convention Center); In-Person) -  Jun 19, 2024 - Abstract #AAIC2024AAIC_2708;
    Here we demonstrate that in the prodromal stage of AD, prior to the onset of memory impairments, TgF344-AD rats develop progressive sustained attention deficits. Moreover, we identified a connection between baseline attention deficits and susceptibility to POD-like symptoms following sevoflurane anesthesia.

    Journal:  Early and late effects of volatile sedation with sevoflurane on respiratory mechanics of critically ill COPD patients. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 18, 2024
    Our findings will be conducive to substantially expanding our comprehension of the neural circuit mechanisms underlying sevoflurane anesthesia and provide a potential target for modulating consciousness, ultimately leading to a reduction in anesthetic dose requirements and side effects. In critically ill patients intubated with COPD exacerbation, there was no significant difference in respiratory mechanics between sevoflurane and propofol from inclusion to H4 and H48.

    Autophagy inhibition (3-MA) also prevented the protective effect of sevoflurane on inflammation and apoptosis. As shown in the present study, sevoflurane enhances autophagy via Rac1/PI3K/AKT signalling to attenuate lung ischaemia?reperfusion injury.

    Journal:  Anesthetic Management and Considerations in a Rare Case of Parietal Bone Hemangioma. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 11, 2024
    We discuss a 31-year-old female with chronic headaches who underwent surgery for the removal of a large parietal bone hemangioma, necessitating considerations for stable hemodynamics, intracranial pressure (ICP), and bleeding risks. There is no standard anesthetic for these cases, so a mixed anesthetic approach was used, combining intravenous anesthesia with sevoflurane, aimed at optimizing control during the procedure.
