The practical feasibility of the developed CTMs/GC electrode was elucidated using distinct real sample river tap water and clinical sample (NFT capsule), and thus, the modified electrode manifested acceptable recovery results.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  BACTERIAL PROFILE, ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE, AND FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH URINARY TRACT INFECTION AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN AT HOSANNA TOWN HEALTH FACILITIES, CENTRAL ETHIOPIA. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 27, 2023
The gram-positive bacteria were susceptible to gentamicin (86.4%), erythromycin (81.8%), and nitrofurantoin (77.3%): whereas they showed a high level of resistance to penicillin (72.7%), doxycycline (54.5%), trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (52.9%), and cefoxitin (52.9%)...Therefore, regularly, culture-based bacterial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing should be performed. Alternatively, empiric antibiotic therapy should consider the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant uropathogens and the factor that may increase the urinary tract infection occurrence due to multi-drug resistant uropathogens.

Journal:  Extensive Expression of the Virulome Related to Antibiotic Genotyping in Nosocomial Strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 3, 2023
The results showed the existence of different patterns of expression of virulome related to the genotype of resistance to antimicrobials and to the PFtypes in the strains of K. pneumoniae that cause hospital- and community-acquired infections. These findings are important and may contribute to improving medical treatment strategies against infections caused by K. pneumoniae.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  The Change in Antimicrobial Resistance During the COVID-19 Pandemic in T (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 31, 2023
While cefotaxime and ceftazidime susceptibility rates in E.coli strains increased during the pandemic period compared to previous period (p= 0.04, p= 0.001, respectively); nitrofurantoin sensitivity (p= 0.02) and extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) ratios (p< 0.001) were found to be decreased...It was observed that the susceptibility to ciprofloxacin (p= 0.0001), levofloxacin (p= 0.003), and gentamicin (p= 0.005) in S.aureus strains increased during the pandemic period...The decrease in the susceptibility rate of K.pneumoniae isolates to antibiotics and the increase in the ESBL rate may be due to inappropriate and excessive use of antibiotics during the pandemic period. However, we believe that these data should be supported by studies to be conducted nowadays when all the rules and measures are back as if the pandemic has ended.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Trends in antimicrobial resistance of Shigella species in Peru, 2011-2020. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 30, 2023
sonnei was the most frequent species, which have a large proportion of strains resistant to trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, and a growing trend of resistance to ciprofloxacin and nalidixic acid. This increase in resistance to commonly used antibiotics in treatments is alarming, threatening the control and management of these currently treatable infections.
