Lingering parenchymal and functional subclinical alterations were paralleled by tapering, but abnormally high levels of urinary albumin, transferrin, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7 (IGFBP7), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 (TIMP-2) and, especially, the [TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7] product. As subclinical surrogates of incomplete renal recovery, the FST and the urinary [TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7] product provide two potential diagnostic tools to monitor the sequelae and kidney vulnerability after the apparent recovery from AKI.

There was no difference in the proportion of patients receiving thiazide diuretics after supplementation (56% before vs. 50% after (p = 0.10)). NaCl supplementation in children receiving loop diuretics increased calculated fluid balance, but weight was unchanged, and this was not associated with an increase in diuretic needs, suggesting clinicians did not consider the increase in fluid balance to be clinically significant.

Hearing loss was induced by administration of kanamycin/furosemide and two BDNF treatments were performed: (1) by gelatin sponge (BDNF-GS) with acute cochlear implantation (CI), and (2) through a mini-osmotic pump (BDNF-OP) with chronic CI...SGC packing density was not correlated with the total number of SCs for either BDNF group. Our data suggest that: (1) BDNF does not prevent cell death in the organ of Corti, and that the protection of SGCs could result from a direct targeting by BDNF; (2) BDNF might induce a different function/activity of the remaining cells in the organ of Corti (independently from cell number).

There was no significant change in creatinine clearance from baseline in either group. Conclusion Fenoldopam may increase urine output in postoperative critically ill patients with acute kidney injury when administered within the first 24 hours of presentation. Based on our results, fenoldopam appears to have a synergistic effect with furosemide in our study population.

The present study investigated whether hearing loss contributes to dementia in the absence of aging and noise using a mouse model of severe bilateral hearing loss induced by kanamycin (1000 mg/kg) and furosemide (400 mg/kg)...These results suggest that hearing loss alone causes neuronal degeneration, inhibition of neurogenesis, increased tau protein phosphorylation, and increased neuroinflammation in the hippocampus. Early intervention in individuals with hearing loss may reduce the risk of cognitive decline.

In this retrospective study, diuretic efficiency (DE, or net urine output per 40-mg of intravenous furosemide equivalent) during the first 72 hours was compared between patients hospitalized with HFrEF (n = 121) versus HFpEF (n = 120)...Correlations between the components of DE varied considerably and only became weak to moderately correlated toward the end of the observation period. Although cumulative DE did not differ between patients with HFrEF and HFpEF, variable correlations in the components of DE suggest there may be differences in diuretic response that warrant future analysis.

We found that furosemide sensitive sodium transport (NKCC2) is only increased during late pregnancy, thiazide sensitive sodium transport (NDCBE/pendrin) is increased in all stages of pregnancy, and that benzamil sensitive sodium transport (ENaC) is increased beginning in mid-pregnancy...Here we have shown progressive turning on of specific sodium transport mechanisms to help support progressive sodium retention through the course of gestation. These mechanisms contribute to the renal sodium retention and plasma volume expansion required for an optimal pregnancy.
