The cut-off values for these 2 agents calculated for the aggregation of the data from 3 laboratories were ?23 mm for trimethoprim and ?24 mm for trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole. These zone size data will be submitted to the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and European Committee for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) for their consideration in setting international consensus epidemiological cut-off values for non O1/non-O139 V. cholerae.

Preclinical, Journal: Comparison of yeast-derived commercial feed additives on Salmonella Enteritidis survival and microbiota populations in rooster cecal in vitro incubations. (Pubmed Central) - Dec 18, 2023 All groups were inoculated with a nalidixic acid-resistant strain of Salmonella Enteritidis at 10^7 CFU/mL and incubated at 37 deg C. Samples were collected at 0, 24, and 48 h for S. Enteritidis enumeration and 16S rDNA microbial sequencing...Using ANCOM at the genus level, the taxa Synergistes, Alloprevotella, Sutterella, and Megasphaera abundance were significantly different (W = 154,147,145,140, respectively). These results demonstrate the potential of these yeast-derived products to reduce foodborne pathogens, such as Salmonella Enteriditis, in vitro, without negatively disrupting the cecal microbiome.

Journal: trans-translation system is important for maintaining genome integrity during DNA damage in bacteria. (Pubmed Central) - Dec 4, 2023 DNA damage sensitivity can be alleviated by partial uncoupling of transcription and translation by using sub-lethal concentrations of ribosome inhibiting antibiotic (tetracycline) or by mutating the gene coding for RNase H (rnhA). Taken together, our results highlight the importance of trans-translation system in maintaining genome integrity and bacterial survival during DNA damage.

There was high resistance to piperacillin (90.91%), cefuroxime (86.96%), ceftazidime (84.62%), cefotaxime (84.00%), amoxicillin/clavulanate (75%), nalidixic acid (73.68%), and nitrofurantoin (71.43%) antibiotics among K. pneumoniae isolates...Chromosomal fosA (for fosfomycin) and oqxAB efflux pump genes were detected in all isolates...Our study demonstrated genetically diverse populations of K. pneumoniae, low levels of carbapenem resistance among the isolates, and no convergence of MDR and hypervirulence. Emerging high-risk international pandemic clones (ST11, ST14, ST147, ST 86 and ST307) were detected in these healthcare settings which are difficult to treat.

Journal: Isolation, Identification, and Pathogenicity of Vibrio gigantis Retrieved from European Seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) Farmed in T (Pubmed Central) - Nov 25, 2023 Interestingly, antimicrobial susceptibility testing revealed that the C24 isolate was susceptible to nalidixic acid, ciprofloxacin, and several other antibiotics but resistant to tilmicosin, kanamycin, streptomycin, and ampicillin. To our knowledge, this study is the first to report that V. gigantis could be considered an emerging bacterial pathogen in T

Strong resistance to ciprofloxacin (56.66%), trimethoprim (50%), cefotaxime (46.66%), ceftazidime (43.33%) and gentamicin (40%) was also observed...Most of the isolates harbored the tetA (53.33%), tetB (46.66%), blaTEM (36.66%) and sul1 (26.66%) genes, but also aadA1 (23.33%), blaCTX (16.66%), blaOXA (16.66%), qnrA (16.66%) and aac (10%). In conclusion, to the best of our knowledge, this is among the first studies analyzing the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of E. coli strains isolated from chicken meat in Romania and probably the first study reporting colistin resistance in E. coli isolates recovered from food sources in our country.

In conclusion, to the best of our knowledge, this is among the first studies analyzing the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of E. coli strains isolated from chicken meat in Romania and probably the first study reporting colistin resistance in E. coli isolates recovered from food sources in our country. While geographic and population differences exist, Campylobacter carriage and associated antibiotic resistance in dogs is common, emphasising the need for continuous surveillance in this species, particularly given its zoonotic potential.

Journal: High prevalence of antibiotic resistance and biofilm formation in Salmonella Gallinarum. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 9, 2023 All isolates were susceptible to imipenem, ertapenem, ceftriaxone, ceftazidime, and ceftazidime+clavulanic acid...This study showed a positive correlation between biofilm formation and 50% of tested resistance genes. However, Cu(II)-NA aqueous complexation and potential Cu(OH) precipitates counteracted the formation of ternary surface complexes, leading to decreased NA loadings on akagan
- |||||||||| Journal: Trends in antimicrobial resistance of Shigella species in Peru, 2011-2020. (Pubmed Central) - Oct 30, 2023
sonnei was the most frequent species, which have a large proportion of strains resistant to trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, and a growing trend of resistance to ciprofloxacin and nalidixic acid. This increase in resistance to commonly used antibiotics in treatments is alarming, threatening the control and management of these currently treatable infections.
- |||||||||| Journal: Invasion of HeLa Cells by Shigella Species Clinical Isolates Recovered from Pediatric Diarrhea. (Pubmed Central) - Sep 22, 2023
isolates recovered from pediatric patients were able to invade HeLa cells, but the total number and average size of plaques were different between the isolates. The higher invasion ability of S. flexneri isolates in HeLa cells compared to S. sonnei isolates was attributed to the presence of particular virulence genes; however, the role of each of these virulence factors remains to be determined.

Journal: Detection of Escherichia coli and other Enterobacteriales members in seabirds sampled along the Brazilian coast. (Pubmed Central) - Aug 6, 2023 According to the chi-square test, no significant differences between E. coli prevalences or antimicrobial resistance profiles between migratory and resident and between wrecked and non-wrecked seabirds were observed. Thus, migratory birds do not seem to contribute significantly to E. coli frequencies, pathotypes or antimicrobial resistance rates on the Brazilian coast.

Journal: The effect of Paenibacillus on IDEXX Enterolert results from freshwater stream environments. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 19, 2023 In conclusion, we found that Enterolert was not exclusively selective for Enterococcus from freshwater environments and that sediment and polluted waterbodies have the potential to skew the presumed concentrations. More research is needed to evaluate the effectiveness and selectivity of the medium used for the fluorogenic substrate test for Enterococcus enumeration.
