  • ||||||||||  And my legs? () -  Oct 17, 2022 - Abstract #EUSEM2022EUSEM_3069;
    After several consultations, he assessed severe paraparesis with sensory alteration and sphincter involvement, with little chance of recovery.The patient was discharged to a specialized spinal cord injury center with rehabilitation, bladder catheterization, anticoagulant, anticonvulsant medication, and corticosteroids.Faced with a sudden onset with weakness or loss of strength in the lower limbs, we must always rule out spinal cord compression.In the event that the symptoms persist, although a first result does not refer to alterations, we must continue with the diagnostic procedure and even repeat complementary tests, establishing treatment as soon as possible.Spinal cord infarction is a rare cause of paraplegia that constitutes less than 1% of all ischemic infarctions.It is one of the most serious and feared complications of thoracic and/or abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery.It is due to injury to an extravertebral feeding artery or the aorta, more often than due to intrinsic disorders of the spinal artery. There is no specific treatment and corticosteroids, used in the acute phase, have not shown clear long-term improvement.

    Review, Journal:  Occurrence of emerging organic contaminants and endocrine disruptors in different water compartments in Mexico - A review. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 14, 2022
    Although the contamination of water resources represents one of the most environmental concerns in Mexico, this review brings to light the lack of studies on the occurrence of EOCs in Mexican waters, which is important for public health policies and for developing legislations that incorporates EOCs as priority contaminants in national water quality guidelines. Consequently, the development of legislations will support regulatory compliance for wastewater and drinking water, reducing the human exposure.

    Journal:  A super-hydrophilic partially reduced graphene oxide membrane with improved stability and antibacterial properties. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 7, 2022
    The retention order of salts was NaSO > MgSO > MgCl > NaCO > CaCl > NaCl, while the rejection for four kinds of pharmaceuticals followed the order of ibuprofen (92%) > carbamazepine (87%) > amlodipine (80%) > atenolol (76%), indicating that the negatively charged membrane could improve the retention performance by the electrostatic repulsive effect. Moreover, the enhanced antibacterial performance of membrane attributed to the dual effects of the super-hydrophilicity and the tea polyphenols antibacterial material loading, which may alter the charge distribution on and within the membrane, leading to loss of cell viability.

    Journal:  Enhancive and inhibitory effects of copper complexation on triplet dissolved black carbon-sensitized photodegradation of organic micropollutants. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 30, 2022
    Cu complexation can also enhance the electron transfer ability, thereby producing more ∙OH in Cu(II)-DBC complex, which explains the promoting effect of Cu complexation on carbamazepine photodegradation in view of its low triplet reaction rate. These indicate that DBC* reactivity differences of organic micropollutants may explain their photodegradation kinetics differences in DBC system with/without Cu, which was supported by the linearized relationship between the photodegradation rate ratios of ten micropollutants with/without Cu and their triplet reaction activity.
