Wow! Thank you posting this! My son was on Pentasa, w/ methotrexate, flagel, Humira, Cipro .... his table looked like a drug store! His liver was showing signs of stress, so little by little we eliminated each drug, Pentasa and Humira were left. Took away Pentasa & liver improved (Twitter) - Sep 11, 2019

Case Description/ A 68-year-old man with history of PE (on Xarelto), pneumothorax & COPD presented with 10 weeks of diarrhea, associated with chills, lower abdominal discomfort, poor appetite, and weight loss of 15 pounds...Patient was started on PO Prednisone 60 mgs daily & Pentasa TID and discharged for close follow up with GI...IV Ganciclovir was initiated, steroids were discontinued...This is an unusual case of CMV associated ischemic colitis in an immunocompetent individual. This case report also should sound an alarm to GI physicians on thinking about CMV colitis infections even in immunocompetent individuals.

When I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 1998, the first step my GI did was prescribe Prednisone. My Uncle, who was a doctor, advised and pushed for me to stop taking Prednisone. I did stop against my GI's wishes. Of course the next medicine prescribed was Pentasa. (Twitter) - Apr 28, 2019

JFC highlighted the Pentasa for #Crohns craziness, something I saw @MayoClinic IBD clinic and @IbdWustl in community referrals. I think for some we just have very stubborn and medicine resistant Crohn's! I will say biologics work better than Pentasa and Asocal ever did. Still I do sometimes wonder if my challege with biologics doesn't go back to that 1st Remicade infusion. (Twitter) - Apr 4, 2019
