Neratinib tolerability was improved with preemptive prophylaxis or DE, which reduced the rate, severity, and duration of neratinib-associated grade ≥3 diarrhea compared with ExteNET. Lower diarrhea-related treatment discontinuations in multiple cohorts indicate that proactive management can allow patients to stay on neratinib for the recommended time period.

The following data will be collected from a review of patient EMR: age, gender, potassium lab value series (baseline and first potassium check), pharmacologic agents used during a hyperkalemic event (insulin, albuterol, loop diuretics, sodium bicarbonate and IV calcium), medications used that could increase potassium (angiotensin inhibitors (e.g. angiotensin-converting enzyme [ACE] inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers [ARB]), aldosterone antagonists and other potassium sparing diuretics (e.g. spironolactone, eplerenone, and amiloride)), medications that could lower potassium length of stay (loop diuretics, and thiazide-type diuretics), gastrointestinal issues while on the medications (indicated through nursing documentation or specific medications (e.g. loperamide, diphenoxylate/atropine, anti-nausea medications (e.g. ondansetron, prochlorperazine, etc.))), sodium levels, and underlying comorbidities. All patient data collected on the data collection log will be identified using only the Coded Study ID and stored on Inspira Medical Center’s secure encrypted network.

In this study, the effects of FengLiao were analyzed in a castor oil-induced diarrhea model, using the anti-diarrhea drug, loperamide, as the positive control...It also increased the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium, Aerococcus, Corynebacterium_1 and Pseudomonas, and lowered the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes (F/B) ratio, which maintained the balance between immunity and intestinal health. Taken together, FengLiao alleviated castor oil-induced diarrhea by altering gut microbiota, and levels of jejunum epithelial transport proteins and acute phase proteins.

In loperamide-induced constipation mice model, nine days oral administration of A. mongolicum 50% ethanolic extract increased luminal side water content and regulated intestinal movement rhythm to normalize stools...Three kinds of major flavonoids significantly increased cellular calcium flux in HCT116 cells and promoted mice intestine smooth muscle contraction. The activity may be related to M choline receptor, μ opioid receptor, 5-HT3 receptor, and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) receptor.

[VIRTUAL] Tincture of Opium in a Refractory Case of Short Bowel Syndrome () - Sep 15, 2020 - Abstract #ACG2020ACG_3344;
In our case, the patient was unresponsive to the first-line antimotility agents due to limiting length of remaining intestine. The optimal effect of tincture of opium we observed in our case offers an effective solution and suggests that early use of this agent in refractory cases of short bowel syndrome may help to avoid unnecessary hospitalization and long length of stay.
