    Bromhexine hydrochloride (BHCl) and p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA) were used as the simulated drug and additive, respectively...After excluding the extreme values, the coefficient of variation (CV) of the RCR distribution was used as another mixing index. The differentiation among four mixing modes could be evaluated from the standpoint of %EV and CV, and the discrimination capacity by SR instrument was superior to that by globe light instrument.

    Mucolytics for acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis (Westminster, 4th floor) -  Nov 15, 2022 - Abstract #BTSWM2022BTS_WM_247;
    Mucolytics were also associated with a modest beneficial impact on the partial pressure of oxygen in arterial blood (MD 3.21 [1.51, 4.92], I2= 38%) and oxygen saturation (MD 0.96 [0.27, 1.66], I2= 0%).Conclusions Overall, we found moderate-certainty evidence that mucolytics improve symptoms and treatment success rate in COPD exacerbations. These benefits may be potentiated in patients exerting sputum hypersecretion with increased viscosity; however, we were not able to assess this subgroup in the absence of adequate data.

    Journal:  Kinetics of Drug Molecule Interactions with a Newly Developed Nano-Gold-Modified Spike Protein Electrochemical Receptor Sensor. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 28, 2022
    Moreover, the time-current method was used to quantify seven antiviral drug compounds, such as arbidol and chloroquine diphosphate...Among the investigated drug molecules, bromhexine exhibits the smallest Ka value, and thus, is most sensitively detected by the sensor...Molecular docking simulations of the spike protein with six small-molecule drugs show that residues of this protein, such as Asp, Trp, Asn, and Gln, form hydrogen bonds with the -OH or -NH groups on the branched chains of small-molecule drugs. The electrochemical receptor biosensor can directly quantify the interaction between the spike protein and drugs such as abidor and hydroxychloroquine and perform kinetic studies with a limit of detection 3.3 × 10 mol/L, which provides a new research method and idea for receptor-ligand interactions and pharmacodynamic evaluation.

    Journal:  Network pharmacology reveals multitarget mechanism of action of drugs to be repurposed for COVID-19. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 3, 2022
    This method not only allows us to focus on viral proteins as the main targets for COVID-19 but also reveals that some human proteins could be also important in drug repurposing campaigns. As a result of the analysis of the SARS-CoV-2-human interactome, we have identified some old drugs, such as disulfiram, auranofin, gefitinib, suloctidil, and bromhexine as potential therapies for the treatment of COVID-19 deciphering their potential complex mechanism of action.

    Journal:  Facile approaches for determination of Bromhexine Hydrochloride and its active metabolite Ambroxol Hydrochloride using Eosin Y. (Pubmed Central) -  Aug 24, 2022
    The fluorometric-concentration plot is linear along the range (1.0-5.0) μg/ml and (1-10) μg/ml for the two drugs respectively with LOD of 0.13 μg/ml and 0.22 μg/ml and LOQ of 0.4 μg/ml and 0.65 μg/ml for the two drugs respectively. Developed assays have been validated in agreement with ICH recommendations and they were used in the analysis of commercial drug formulations containing the two mucolytic drugs and the results were matching with those obtained by the comparison method.

    Journal:  Electrodeposition of Cobalt Oxides on Carbon Nanotubes for Sensitive Bromhexine Sensing. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 17, 2022
    Based on cyclic voltammetry studies at varying scan rates, we conclude that the electrochemical oxidation of BHC is under mixed diffusion-adsorption control. The proposed sensor allows the amperometric determination of BHC in a linear range of 10-500 µM with a low applied voltage of 0.75 V. The designed sensor provides reproducible measurements, is not affected by common interfering substances, and shows excellent performance for the analysis of BHC in pharmaceutical preparations.
