Retrospective data, Journal: Management of isoniazid-monoresistant tuberculosis (Hr-TB) in Queensland, Australia: a retrospective case series. (Pubmed Central) - Jun 9, 2021 The current WHO-recommended regimen did not confer advantage over an appropriately constructed regimen containing first-line agents only. Our findings suggest that, in a well-resourced setting with good programmatic management, the addition of a fluoroquinolone may not substantially improve outcomes - potentially allowing these agents to be reserved for more extensively resistant disease.

Journal: Presence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) genes in non-typhoidal Salmonella strains with reduced susceptibility to fluoroquinolones isolated from human salmonellosis in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea from 2016 to 2019. (Pubmed Central) - Jun 3, 2021 In conclusion, qnr gene-positive Salmonella 4,[5],12:i:- and Salmonella Typhimurium were the main serovars responsible for reduced susceptibility to fluoroquinolones. Therefore, our findings suggest that PMQR-positive Salmonella strains, which can be isolated from various samples including human, food, and the environment, should be carefully monitored.

Journal: Protective effects of Helicobacter pylori membrane vesicles against stress and antimicrobial agents. (Pubmed Central) - Jun 2, 2021 In the presence of 50 µg OMVs ml, significantly enhanced H. pylori growth was observed at higher LL-37 concentrations compared with lower LL-37 concentrations, suggesting that OMV-LL-37 interactions might facilitate release of growth-promoting nutrients. Taken together, these data indicate that production of membrane vesicles could help H. pylori to survive exposure to antibiotics and host antimicrobial defences during infection.

Journal: Helicobacter pylori infections in the Bronx, New York: Surveying Antibiotic Susceptibility and Strain Lineage by Whole-genome Sequencing. (Pubmed Central) - Jun 1, 2021 In summary, WGS allows for broad analyses of H. pylori isolates and our findings support the use of WGS for detection of clarithromycin and levofloxacin resistance. Additional studies are warranted to better define mutations conferring resistance to amoxicillin, tetracycline, and rifampin, but combinatorial analyses for rdxA gene truncations and R16H mutations have utility for determining metronidazole resistance.
