Physical examination was anodyne, the blood test and radiology thorax image showed no findings and he was discharged home with empiric antibiotic treatment with levofloxacin...Empiric antibiotic treatment with clarithromycin, ciprofloxacin and amikacin was started. Fast growing NTM species such as M. abscesuss are a rare cause of CRBSI in patients with Auto- HSCT and usually affect lungs and skin.In our patient, despite suffering from MM and being recently transplanted, M. Abscessus infection only represented a febrile syndrome without other complications, which allowed continuing treatment on an outpatient basis with an excellent impact on his quality of life.

Hypersensitization of Helicobacter pylori to antibiotics through perturbation of bacterial glycan armor (In-Person Room (Virtual Room)) - Jan 28, 2022 - Abstract #ACSSp2022ACS_Sp_3255; These small molecule-induced results were recapitulated by comparing levofloxacin sensitivity in wildtype H. pylori versus glycosylation mutants. Taken together, these data indicate that selectively altering different parts of H. pylori’s glycocalyx could be an effective way to re-potentiate our front-line antibiotics and help combat growing antibiotic resistance of this bacteria.

The resistance to piperacillin/tazobactam, ceftazidime, cefepime, and levofloxacin was scarce (2.6-9.2%)...However, no association was indicated between the scale of biofilm formation ability and MDR. Our results indicate that the combination of these characteristics may together provide a selective and competitive advantage to those Salmonella 1,4,[5],12:i:- isolates, contributing to their increasing prevalence observed worldwide.

(Pubmed Central) - Jan 27, 2022 Taking levofloxacin as a model pollutant, the mechanism of catalytic process was discussed, and the catalytic reaction was successfully applied to the removal of residual organics in bio-treated coking wastewater (BTCW)...From the perspective of UV absorption and 3D EEM, catalytic ozonation was more conducive to breaking the electronic protection of inert organic molecules such as heterocyclic compounds, and achieving higher efficiency of mineralization. It provides a new idea for catalytic ozonation technology of wastewater treatment in the future from theory, technology and application.

Journal: Phenotypic and Molecular Characteristics of the MDR Efflux Pump Gene-Carrying Stenotrophomonas maltophilia Strains Isolated in Warsaw, Poland. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 26, 2022 Moreover, the presence of genes encoding ten different efflux pumps from the resistance-nodulation-division family and the ATP-binding cassette family was shown in the majority of the 94 isolates. The obtained knowledge about the prevalence of efflux pump genes in clinical S. maltophilia strains makes it possible to predict the scale of the risk of resistance emergence in strains as a result of gene overexpression.

Biomarker, Journal, Next-generation sequencing: Next-Generation Sequencing-Based Study of Helicobacter pylori Isolates from Myanmar and Their Susceptibility to Antibiotics. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 26, 2022 The H. pylori eradication regimen with classical triple therapy, including amoxicillin and clarithromycin, can be used as the first-line therapy in Myanmar. In addition, next-generation sequencing is a powerful high-throughput method for identifying mutations within antibiotic resistance genes and monitoring the spread of H. pylori antibiotic-resistant strains.

Fifteen patients (60%) receive combination of imipenem, amikacin, azithromycin and levofloxacin/moxifloxacin and ten patients (40%) receive other combination of antibiotics. NTM- peritonitis is associated with high technique failure and mortality and a further study need to be done to determine effective treatment.
