Retrospective data, Review, Journal: Oral pharmacological treatments for chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome: A systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials. (Pubmed Central) - Jun 22, 2022 Low and very low quality evidence suggested that combination treatment including doxazosin, ibuprofen, and thiocolchicoside (odds ratios [OR], 3.2, CrI, 0.5 to 19.3) and the tamsulosin and dapoxetine combination (OR, 6.0, CrI, 0.7 to 67.3) caused more adverse events...There was also high heterogeneity in NIH-CPSI urine scores for the combination of tamsulosin and ciprofloxacin versus tamsulosin (I = 66.8%), tamsulosin and levofloxacin versus tamsulosin (I = 93.3%), and tamsulosin versus placebo (I = 83%)...Future studies could personalise therapy for individuals according to specific symptoms and identify non-pharmacological targets for CP/CPPS. Dr Jiani Wu received funding for this project from the China Association for Science and Technology (2017QNRC001), the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (ZZ13-YQ-027), and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (82105037).

Retrospective data, Journal: Clinical Laboratory Features of Microbes That Cause Neonatal Sepsis: An 8-Year Retrospective Study. (Pubmed Central) - Jun 22, 2022 With regard to the trends in resistance among important pathogens, the rates of resistance to rifampicin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin and clindamycin by Staphylococcus epidermidis significantly decreased (p<0.05) during the study period...coli strains exhibited a significant increase in ceftriaxone resistance during the study period (p<0.05)...The bacterial isolates showed varying levels of resistance to the antimicrobial drugs tested. Thus, periodic surveillance in hospital settings to monitor changes in pathogens and antibiotic resistance is important.

Journal: Ten-Year Analysis of Pathogenic Factors and Etiological Characteristics of Endophthalmitis from a Tertiary Eye Center in North China. (Pubmed Central) - Jun 22, 2022 The high susceptibility of bacteria to vancomycin (77.78%~98.33%) supported its continued use as empirical treatment...Fungal susceptibilities to voriconazole and amphotericin B were 90.16% and 70.31% respectively...Gram-positive cocci were the most common pathogens of traumatic and postoperative endophthalmitis, while suppurative keratitis-associated endophthalmitis often resulted from fungal pathogens. Levofloxacin as the preferred antibiotic in the perioperative period and cephalosporin as the first-line drug for the treatment of empiric endophthalmitis need to be vigilant.
- |||||||||| Journal: Molecular Characterization of Predominant Serotypes, Drug Resistance, and Virulence Genes of Streptococcus pneumoniae Isolates From East China. (Pubmed Central) - Jun 22, 2022
Of the nine detected virulence genes, the lytA, ply, hysA, and nanA were the most common with 95-100% positive rates in the 309 pneumococcal isolates, while the pavA and psaA genes displayed a significant correlation with pneumococcal bacteremia and meningitis (p < 0.05). Overall, our data suggested that the predominant serotypes, drug resistance, and virulence genes of the S. pneumoniae isolates prevailing in East China are distinct from those observed in other areas of China and adjacent countries.

Regional features of Pseudomonas aeruginosaPA) antibiotic (AB) resistance (R) in patients (pts) with bronchiectasis (Bx) (TP-21 in thematic poster area) - Jun 22, 2022 - Abstract #ERS2022ERS_3381; In conclusion, PA is highly resistant to Cd, Im, Az, Cp, Lf, Mp, Cf, Gm, Ac, and Tm in pts with Bx in Ukraine. A feature is a tendency towards greater multidrug R among non-mucoid strains than among mucoid, which should be taken into account when prescribing eradication AB therapy.

The A2143G and A2142G mutations in 23S rRNA gene, which are related to clarithromycin resistance, and Asn87 and Asp91 mutations in gyrA gene, which are related to levofloxacin resistance, were investigated in 102 strains...No resistance to amoxicillin, tetracycline, and furazolidone was observed...What is New: • High resistance rates to single and multiple antibiotics in children of Chongqing, a city located in southwest China, were observed. • Molecular assays showed good conformance with susceptibility test results to direct antibiotic resistance of H. pylori.

PK properties of antibiotics including lipophilicity or hydrophilicity, protein binding, the volume of distribution, and elimination rate that affect drug concentration should be considered along with PD parameters for drug dosing in critically ill patients with ARC. This review recommends a dosing protocol for some antibiotics to help the appropriate dosing of antibiotics in ARC and decrease the risk of subtherapeutic exposure that may be observed while receiving conventional dosing regimens in critically ill patients with ARC.

Journal: Kinetics of bactericidal potency with synergistic combination of allicin and selected antibiotics. (Pubmed Central) - Jun 15, 2022 Moreover, the average inhibition potential to protein denaturation by the synergistic combination group was significantly higher (3.4 fold) than the sole antibiotic's group manifests reduction in the dose-related toxicity. The potential of synergism between antibiotics and allicin combination demonstrated greater killing efficiency at significantly lower concentration compared to monotherapy with increased kill rates in all cases.

Histopathological examination depicted hepatocellular degeneration, myocardial necrosis, interstitial nephritis, intestinal hemorrhages and lymphopenia in the spleen. This study is the first evidence to assess the antibiotic resistance profile linked with virulence genes and clinicopathological potential of APEC O78:K80 in chickens in Pakistan, which could be a useful and rapid approach to prevent and control the disease by developing the control strategies.

Results also revealed that 51.25%, 52.5%, 66.25%, 77.5% and 60% of ESBL-producing E. coli isolates were responsive to ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin, levofloxacin, and gentamycin, respectively...Regular and thorough surveillance of ESBL-producing E. coli and subsequent preventive actions are essential for preventing the spread of these resistance genes in the future, which could pose serious and catastrophic health risks. Authorities should cling to the concept of One Health to minimize the risk of new varieties.

Biomarker, Journal, Next-generation sequencing: Exploratory study on detection of drug resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in sputum specimens by next-generation sequencing (Pubmed Central) - Jun 8, 2022 With the accuracy of the NGS method for detecting strains as a reference, there was no statistically significant difference in the accuracy of all drug resistance detected between strains and sputum specimens. This study showed that the NGS technology was effective in predicting the resistance of isoniazid, rifampicin, and second-line injectable drugs (capreomycin, kanamycin and amikacin) by detecting sputum samples and strain genotypes, suggesting the feasibility and potential of direct detection of sputum samples by the NGS method as an early detection method for drug resistance.
