Journal: Cyclodextrin-assisted SERS determination of fluoroquinolone antibiotics in urine and blood plasma. (Pubmed Central) - Dec 4, 2022 This step was used to evaluate possible limitations of the assay associated with the deviation of the composition of the body fluid matrix. Therefore, accounting for the short analysis time (≤15 min) and the use of a portable Raman spectrometer, the proposed assay can be suggested for therapeutic drug monitoring in hospitals.

(Pubmed Central) - Dec 1, 2022 Although these antibiotics have been on the market for more than 20 years, a wide range of serious FQ-associated adverse events first became apparent in 2006 and continued to be recognized for the next 15 years. Clinicians should be aware that COVID-19 and immunosuppressive treatment can reactivate EBV in the eye.

IMPORTANCE In S. pneumoniae, different mechanisms that counteract antibiotic effects have been described, such as vancomycin tolerance, heteroresistance to penicillin and fluoroquinolone resistance, which critically affect the therapeutic efficacy...Many fluoroquinolones, such as levofloxacin and moxifloxacin, have a broad spectrum of activity against bacterial pathogens of community-acquired pneumonia, and they are used to treat pneumococcal diseases...Consequently, antibiotic persistence in S. pneumoniae is clinically relevant due to prolonged exposure to fluoroquinolones likely favors the acquisition of mutations that generate antibiotic resistance in persisters. In addition, this work contributes to the knowledge of antibiotic persistence mechanisms in bacteria.

Journal: Toward green nano adsorbents and catalysts: Highly active Fe/Mn nanoparticles for enhanced oxidation of oxytetracycline and levofloxacin. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 27, 2022 Characterization of Fe/Mn NPs before and after reaction, and the identification of specific OTC and LEV degradation products by LC-MS, helped to elucidate a potential degradation pathway, as well as the removal mechanism. Finally, the practicality of using this system for wastewater treatment was demonstrated using real wastewater samples indicating that the system has great potential for simultaneously degrading both OTC and LEV in contaminated wastewater.

Journal: Should fluoroquinolones be feared during pregnancy and breastfeeding? (Pubmed Central) - Nov 27, 2022 However, the data about exposed pregnancies published over time have not so far confirm these fears and allow, when a fluoroquinolone is clearly indicated, not to deprive pregnant patients of the therapeutic benefit of these important antibiotics and to envisage their use whatever the term of the pregnancy, within the current scope of their prescription. During breastfeeding the use of some of them can be considered.

Review, Journal: Fluoroquinolone stewardship at a community health system: A decade in review. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 26, 2022 A substantial decrease in fluoroquinolone use and increase in P. aeruginosa and E. coli levofloxacin susceptibility was observed after implementation of an antimicrobial stewardship program. These results demonstrate the value of stewardship services and highlight the effectiveness of an infectious diseases pharmacist led antimicrobial stewardship program.

Journal: Effects of azithromycin on serum inflammatory factors and T lymphocyte subsets in patients with gynecological mycoplasma infection. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 24, 2022 The total clinical efficacy in the observation group was 93.08%, significantly higher than 80.00% in the control group, and the total incidence of adverse drug reactions was 6.15%, significantly lower than 14.17% in the control group (P<0.05). Azithromycin used in clinical treatment of patients with gynecological mycoplasma infection can effectively improve anti-inflammatory and immune response, improve the clinical efficacy of the treatment and reduce adverse reactions.

Phenotypic resistance to antimicrobials was associated with resistance genes to its content, and cgMLST clustering suggested a strong link between these strains. Overall, our findings revealed the prevalence and molecular characteristics of MRSA isolates in Shanghai, China, providing a theoretical reference for preventing and controlling clonal transmission of MRSA isolates in hospitals in China.

Overall, our findings revealed the prevalence and molecular characteristics of MRSA isolates in Shanghai, China, providing a theoretical reference for preventing and controlling clonal transmission of MRSA isolates in hospitals in China. The use of mNGS increases the probability of diagnosing Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia, and good prognosis can be achieved with timely use of appropriate antibiotics.

Journal: Levofloxacin prophylaxis vs no prophylaxis in neutropenic patients within an endemic country for carbapenem-resistant GNB. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 22, 2022 Comparing antimicrobial resistance among Gram-negative bacteria in the setting of allo-HSCT, in the group without FQ-P a significantly higher proportion of pathogens was susceptible to piperacillin/tazobactam (71% versus 30%, p=0.026), FQ (49% versus 10%, p=0.03) and carbapenems (95% versus 50%, p=0.001). FQ-P discontinuation increased Gram-negative bacteria PE-BSI, but it did not impact IRM, both in ASCT and allo-HSCT setting; importantly, it concurred to decrease significantly antimicrobial resistance in Gram-negative bacteria.

In light of the remarkable changes in antibiotic resistance of H. pylori during the study's period and the increasing resistance rates to various antibiotics, it is very important to continuously monitor H. pylori antibiotic susceptibly. In order to increase eradication rates of this bacterium, therapy regimes must be based on an updated antibiotic resistance data.
