Journal: First Report and Characterization of a Plasmid-Encoded blaSFO-1 in a Multi-Drug-Resistant Aeromonas hydrophila Clinical Isolate. (Pubmed Central) - Mar 28, 2024 This is the first report of beta-lactamase SFO-1 within a clinical strain of Aeromonas. Due to the remarkable sequence identity of pMAH4 to plasmids associated with Enterobacterales genera like Klebsiella and the extensive capabilities of Aeromonas for horizontal gene transfer, our identification of a clinical isolate encoding SFO-1 on a plasmid suggests antibiotic resistance gene mobility between Enterobacterales and non-Enterobacterales species.

Normobaric oxygen therapy augments killing of slow growing Pseudomonas aeruginosa by quinolones (Hall 1) - Mar 22, 2024 - Abstract #ECFS2024ECFS_305; This proof-of-principle study demonstrates that reoxygenation of the infectious microenvironment by NBOT can significantly enhance the susceptibility of Pa to quinolones. Direct measurement of O 2 consumption in sputum samples can be considered for obtaining proof-of-concept for the advantageous use of adjuvant intermittent NBOT in adult pwCF.

Evaluation of an intervention to decrease length of stay in children with low-risk febrile neutropenia (Convention Center Exhibit Hall) - Mar 16, 2024 - Abstract #PAS2024PAS_2860; This study provides a novel approach for the fabrication of biogenic CuO NPs with antibacterial drug levofloxacin and their usage as nano antibiotic carriers against pathogenic bacteria, especially antibiotic-resistant microbes. Cumulative antibiotic use between the pre- and post-intervention groups was statistically insignificant (median 13.5 [IQR 22.8,8] vs. 14 [IQR 22,9] days, P = 0.537), whereas Levofloxacin use was significantly longer in the post-intervention cohort versus the pre-intervention cohort (median 0 [IQR 0,4] vs. 0 [IQR 0,0] days, P = 24 hours

ANTIBIOTIC PROPHYLAXIS IN GASTRIC PER-ORAL ENDOSCOPIC PYLOROMYOTOMY: A PILOT STUDY (Hall A, Poster Hall - Walter E. Washington Convention Center) - Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_3535; Conclusions Given the rise of bacterial resistance to antibiotics and the patient-reported adverse effects or allergies to antibiotics, this study supports that providers can consider avoiding perioperative antibiotics and postoperative antibiotics for healthy patients undergoing G-POEM. Patients with diabetes are often relatively immunocompromised and likely benefit from some antibiotics perioperatively, however, the exact course should be further explored.

EVALUATING THE POTENCY OF RESCUE ANTIBIOTICS AGAINST EMERGING ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE IN CLINICAL ISOLATES (Hall A, Poster Hall - Walter E. Washington Convention Center) - Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_998; The potency of RFB, and FUR against multidrug resistant clinical strains was satisfactory. Also, results suggest that if patients do not respond to LVF including regimen, further treatment with same group antibiotics such as CIP, and MOX might need to be carefully considered.
- |||||||||| EPIDEMIOLOGY AND ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE PATTERN OF HELICOBACTER PYLORI INFECTION IN SOUTH EAST ASIA COUNTRIES: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW WITH META-ANALYSIS (Hall A, Poster Hall - Walter E. Washington Convention Center) - Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_986;
Over the past decades (2000-2010 vs. 2011-2023), primary resistance has increased significantly for clarithromycin and levofloxacin (11%, 95% CI; 7%-14% vs. 27%, 95%CI; 19-35%, p-value=0.006, 7%, 95% CI; 4%-11% vs. 28%, 95%CI; 22-34%, p-value<0.001, respectively) while remaining relatively stable for metronidazole, amoxicillin and tetracycline. CONCLUSIONS : The increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance in H. pylori necessitates an adaptation of treatment guidelines to address the needs for the tailored therapeutic approaches and the incorporation of antibiotic susceptibility testing in the future.

REAL-WORLD EFFICACY OF SECOND-LINE THERAPIES FOR HELICOBACTER PYLORI: A POPULATION-BASED STUDY (Hall A, Poster Hall - Walter E. Washington Convention Center) - Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_982; Concomitant quadruple containing AMO, levofloxacin(LEV) and tetracycline (TET) had emerged as the commonest regime recently (from 0.8% in 2003-2006 to 38.4% in 2015-2018)...Rifabutin containing regime had success rate over 82%...Conclusion : BIS quadruple therapy was the most effective second-line regimen for H. pylori with consistently stable success rate in this real-world study from Asia. Although retreatment with CLA containing triple therapies had a very low success rate, they were still commonly used as second-line therapy.

(Pubmed Central) - Mar 11, 2024 It is witnessed that the C-N of piperazine ring and CO of carboxylic acid in LVX are coordinated with W5+ sites to build the electronic bridge to activate LVX, greatly promoting the further degradation. This work highlights the important role of selective coordination activation cooperated with S-type heterojunctions for the photocatalytic degradation and offers a new view to understand the degradation of antibiotics at molecular level.
