Eighteen weeks after infection with 2000 viable protoscoleces intraperitoneally, the infected mice were treated with hMASP-2 DNA nanolipoplexes (pcDNA3.1-hMASP-2) and albendazole respectively...Therefore, the hMASP-2 DNA nanolipoplexes displayed an effective treatment for echinococcosis through inhibiting the development of cysts and up-regulatory T-cell immunity. This new hMASP-2-based immunotherapeutic strategy could be a potential alternative for the treatment of CE, but further studies are recommended to evaluate the full potential of these hMASP-2 DNA nanolipoplexes in the treatment of human CE.

Anthelmintic activities of the extracts were determined by observing the time taken to paralyze and the time taken for the death of earthworms (Eisenia foetida) as compared to the standard drug-Albendazole (20 mg/ml) and control...The studies indicate that Trachyspermum khasianum shows anthelmintic and potent analgesic activities. Further research should be carried out to identify the specific phytoconstituents responsible for both analgesic and anthelmintic activities and its possible mechanism of action.

The most frequently prescribed medications were acetaminophen (18.3%, n=291/1,587), albendazole (15.2%, n=241/1,587), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (10.5%, n=166/1,587), antihistamines (6.1%, n=97/1,587), and antibiotics (5.9%, n=93/1,587)...Community partnerships should be established to facilitate this. We hope this will encourage other medical mission trip teams to analyze their data in order to be more prepared for their trips.

The calculated soil concentrations of ABZ in the model regions and the eastern Africa were found to be 0.057 ± 0.0 μg/kg and 0.022 ± 0.0 μg/kg, respectively. The environmental risk expressed as risk quotient of ABZ in eastern Africa estimated for the aquatic compartment (146 ± 1) indicated a significant environmental risk calling on appropriate actions from the competent authorities to reduce this risk in this region.

Here we show the novel anti-helminthic potential of Lansium parasiticum aqueous extract-protected silver nanoparticles (LAgNPs) against albendazole-resistant gastrointestinal parasite Haemonchus contortus...In response to oxidative stress, a sharp increase of stress-responsive enzymes' activity, like catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase activity, along with the concentration of glutathione, was observed in worm tissue, which indicated a LAgNP-responsive alteration of metabolism. The results give rise to the opportunity for the development of alternative treatment for drug-resistant parasitic worms.

The infected animals were randomly divided into six groups: albendazole (100 mg/kg), MEAS 10 (10 mg/kg), MEAS 20 (20 mg/kg), MEAS 40 (40 mg/kg), MEAS 80 (80 mg/kg) and control group with no treatment...The serum IL-4 level showed no significant difference between the trial groups. The findings of this study showed that MEAS at 20 and 80 mg/kg concentrations enhanced Th1 cell response in mice with cystic echinococcosis.

It is important to consider neurocysticercosis on the differential in any patient presenting with status epilepticus.

In an Ascaris suum infection model in pigs, it was found that, although 2-MPC levels were much lower compared to humans, there was a significant association between urinary 2-MPC levels and both worm counts (p = 0.023) and the number of eggs per gram (epg) counts (p < 0.001). This report demonstrates that urinary 2-MPC can be considered an A. lumbricoides-specific biomarker that can be used to monitor infection intensity.
