    All patients received perioperative albendazole, underwent ultrasonography (USG) and contrast-enhanced computed tomography for diagnosis...Conclusion The laparoscopic closed cystectomy of HHC located at segments VI, VII, and VIII is feasible, safe, and cost-effective. A thorough preoperative evaluation, preparation, and radiological planning of the procedure should be done.

    Unfortunately, barriers to generic entry are common, allowing off-patent drugs like albendazole to remain relatively expensive despite having been marketed in the US for decades...The voucher has a high market value and can be sold or transferred well before the drug for which it was awarded becomes available on the market. While both drugs are used to treat parasitic infections that are uncommon in the US, they differ by market and regulatory conditions-each telling an interesting pricing story.

    Surprisingly, no substantial effect was recorded by using 100× dose of Albendazole with only larger reduction in number of affected organs and absolute counts of spores in all mice strains implying variation in Albendazole resistance between these Encephalitozoon cuniculi genotypes.These results imply that differences in the course of infection and the response to treatment depend not only on immunological status of the host, but also on the genotype causing the infection. Understanding how microsporidia survive in hosts despite targeted anti-microsporidial treatment could significantly contribute to research related to human health.

    The effectiveness of drug treatment is very high for A. lumbricoides infections, whereas cure rates for T. trichiura infections are low. Novel anthelminthic drugs are needed, together with vaccine development and tools for diagnosis and assessment of parasite control in the field.

    The study was conducted over the course of two consecutive seasons in moderately to highly F. hepatica infected herds with robotic milking, where heifers and dry cows received an oral drench with albendazole (10 mg/kg) during three visits in January, February and March in both 2017 and 2018...No consistent long-term effect was observed at the herd level probably due to the influx of animals infected before puberty and/or adult animals that were re-infected at dry-off. This is the first study of the effects of F. hepatica infection on milk yield and quality in dairy herds in Sweden.

    Since the 1990s earlier diagnosis by imaging, advances in surgical and less invasive interventions, and prolonged anti-parasitic treatment using albendazole, have totally transformed the prognosis of the disease...Alveolar echinococcosis is currently more and more often diagnosed incidentally, at an early stage of development, and not in the usual 'at risk' regions and populations. This makes differential diagnosis and care management more challenging.

    She went through the most severe spectrum of this disease, namely NCC encephalitis and disseminated cysticercosis and had a classical starry sky brain in neuroimaging. In contrary to the popular practice of avoiding antihelminthic drugs in such extreme presentation, as a desperate measure, we had to use albendazole in this case, which showed clinical and radiological improvement.

    A subset of compounds including fenbendazole, fluspirilene, clofazimine, niclosamide, and suloctidil showed preferential cytotoxicity and apoptosis towards metastatic prostate cancer cells in vitro and in vivo...The enhanced forms of fenbendazole and albendazole significantly prolonged survival in mice bearing metastases, and albendazole-treated mice displayed significantly longer median survival times than paclitaxel-treated mice...In summary, we find that metastatic prostate tumor cells differ from benign prostate tumor cells in their sensitivity to certain drug classes. Taken together, our results strongly suggest that albendazole, an anthelmintic medication, may represent a potential adjuvant or neoadjuvant to standard therapy in the treatment of disseminated prostate cancer.

    For parenchymal NCC, albendazole alone must be used for patients with one or two cysts, while the combination of albendazole plus praziquantel is advised for those with more than two lesions. Level I evidence on the optimal regimens of cysticidal drugs for treatment of extraparenchymal NCC is lacking, although there is growing evidence supporting the use of cysticidal drugs in these cases, providing that hydrocephalus and intracranial hypertension have previously been treated.Expert opinion: With the exception of therapy of patients with viable parenchymal brain cysticerci, we are far from getting level I evidence on the best approach for each of the other forms of NCC, as most of our knowledge on therapy for extraparenchymal NCC is based on non-controlled studies or small series of patients.

    Albendazole and its TPs were most frequently detected residues, found at 8% of groundwater sites and 28% of surface water sites...This work presents the first detections of these contaminants in Irish groundwater and it contributes to broadening our understanding of anthelmintics in the environment. It also provides insight to seasonal trends in occurrence, which is critical for assessing potential future effects and implications of climate change.

Once treated, parasitic lung eosinophilia typically resolves without any permanent lung damage.

    Our case is unusual in that the patient was asymptomatic with extensive cerebral involvement. This indicates that the prevalence of Neurocysticercosis may be much higher than reported.
