We also show that OXC suppresses the phosphorylation of PLK1, which is involved not only in the activation of the kinesin family of motor proteins for centrosome separation and bipolar spindle assembly, but also in the cleavage of centrosomal proteins. Thus, our results indicate that OXC inhibits centrosome separation by reducing the activation of PLK1, which leads to the formation of an abnormal spindle and induces mitotic catastrophe and apoptosis in NRK-52E cells.

Pitch perception modifications are among the little-known adverse effects observed with antiepileptics, mainly affecting patients treated with carbamazepine (CBZ)...In the French pharmacovigilance database, only one other case of pitch perception modification under CBZ was recorded (no cases were found with oxcarbazepine, lacosamide, sodium valproate, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone, ethosuximide, vigabatrine, felbamate, gabapentin, tiagabine and topiramate)...A rapid onset after the introduction of treatment, a complete resolution of symptoms, in most cases upon discontinuation of treatment, is observed, with no sequelae reported. Due to the impact on quality of life, especially in patients whose profession is related to music, knowledge of this adverse event seems important to evoke this diagnosis.

The understanding of the pharmacokinetic interactions of the AEDs seems to be important in effective management of epilepsy.

The importance of CBZ-E for adverse events under CBZ may have been overemphasized in the past and is not clinically impairing in most cases treated with the combination of BRV and CBZ.
