It is necessary to get close to the DDD before considering an ASM ineffective in seizure control.

We found that AKR1C3 contributes to the reduction of compounds at higher than expected rates.

Counselling needs to be individualized including information on the current knowledge regarding the woman's specific ASM treatment.

This case demonstrates the importance of maintaining a high index of suspicion for DRESS when alternative, more common etiologies of multi-organ failure are not found and illustrates the heterogenous way in which it can present.

In patients receiving oxcarbazepine, it is recommended that periodic thyroid function testing should be performed, especially within the first two years after starting this ASM. Our results indicate that oxcarbazepine-induced hypothyroidism does not appear to be accompanied by a significant increase in TSH, and consequently might be missed if TSH alone is monitored as a measure of thyroid dysfunction.

Therefore, in this report, we identified drugs that require dose adjustment because of drug-drug interactions (DDIs) between nirmatrelvir/ritonavir and AEDs. We hereby used four databases (Micromedex Drug Interaction, Liverpool Drug Interaction Group for COVID-19 Therapies, Medscape Drug Interaction Checker, and Lexicomp Drug Interactions) and DDI-Predictor.In the light of applying the DDI-Predictor, for carbamazepine, clobazam, oxcarbazepine, eslicarbazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, pentobarbital, rufinamide, and valproate as CYP3A4 inducers, we recommend that a dose adjustment of short-term nirmatrelvir/ritonavir as a substrate (victim) drug would be more appropriate instead of these AEDs to avoid impending DDI-related threats in patients with epilepsy.

Although little information is available on the adverse effects or benefits on movement disorders of newer antiseizure drugs (such as brivaracetam, cenobamate, eslicarbazepine, lacosamide, and rufinamide), the evidence collected in this review should guide the choice of antiseizure drugs in patients with concomitant epilepsy and movement disorders. Finally, these notions can lead to a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology and treatments of movement disorders.

A total of 81 epileptic patients with hyperhomocysteinaemia treated with oxcarbazepine monotherapy were enrolled in this study...However, in patients with combined 677TT/1298AA or 677TT/1298AC polymorphisms, the changes in homocysteine and folate levels and seizure frequency were more obvious. MTHFR C677T polymorphism was associated with seizure control in epileptic patients with hyperhomocysteinaemia; individuals with the 677TT genotype or T allele demonstrated better seizure control.
