    Safety of High-Intensity Statin Use in Liver and Kidney Transplant Recipients Taking Tacrolimus (Poster Hall, Exhibit Hall A, Level 2) -  May 6, 2024 - Abstract #ATC2024ATC_2331;
    In liver and kidney transplant recipients receiving tacrolimus, the use of HI statins was not associated with an increased risk of myalgia, rhabdomyolysis, or elevated creatinine kinase when compared with low-moderate intensity statin use. This is an important consideration when determining statin use and dose post-abdominal transplant, especially in patients with an indication for a HI statin.

    Journal:  SLC3A2 N-glycosylation and Golgi remodeling regulate SLC7A amino acid exchangers and stress mitigation. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 5, 2023
    In replete conditions, SLC3A2 interactions require Golgi-modified N-glycans at N365D and N381D, whereas reducing N-glycosylation in the endoplasmic reticulum by fluvastatin treatment promoted the recruitment of CD44 and transporters needed to mitigate stress. Thus, SLC3A2 N-glycosylation and Golgi remodeling of the N-glycans have distinct roles in amino acids import for growth, maintenance, and metabolic stresses.

    Journal:  Statins markedly potentiate aminopeptidase inhibitor activity against (drug-resistant) human acute myeloid leukemia cells. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 16, 2023
    Consistently, statin potentiation of CHR2863 activity was abrogated by co-administration of mevalonate and/or farnesyl pyrophosphate, suggesting the involvement of protein prenylation; this was experimentally confirmed by impaired Rheb prenylation by simvastatin. These novel findings suggest that the combined inhibitory effect of impaired Rheb prenylation and CHR2863-dependent mTOR inhibition instigates a potent synergistic inhibition of statins and APis on human AML cells.

    Journal:  Statin Action Targets Lipid Rafts of Cell Membranes: GIXD/PM-IRRAS Investigation of Langmuir Monolayers. (Pubmed Central) -  Aug 8, 2023
    Two representatives of these drugs, fluvastatin (FLU) and cerivastatin (CER), of different hydrophobicity were chosen, while cholesterol (Chol) and sphingomyelin (SM), and their 1:1 mixture were selected to form condensed monolayers of lipid rafts...In this case, the less hydrophobic FLU was not able to penetrate the binary layer at all, while exposure to the hydrophobic CER resulted in the phase separation and formation of ordered assemblies. The changes in the membrane properties were visualized by BAM images and GIXD patterns and confirmed by thermodynamic parameters of hysteresis in the Langmuir monolayer compression-decompression experiments.
