    Review, Journal:  Field Cancerization Therapies for the Management of Actinic Keratosis: An Updated Review. (Pubmed Central) -  May 5, 2024
    Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with either aminolevulinic acid (ALA) or methylaminolevulinate (MAL), as well as topical treatments such as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), diclofenac gel, piroxicam, imiquimod, and ingenol mebutate, have all shown higher efficacy than vehicle treatments...Tirbanibulin, a new topical agent approved for use in 2020, boasts a favorable safety profile in comparison with imiquimod, 5-FU, and diclofenac...Moving forward, an increasing number of studies push for standardization of outcome measures to better predict risk of future cSCC and use of more effective measures of cost to better guide patients. Here, we present an updated and comprehensive narrative review both confirming the efficacy of previously mentioned therapies as well as highlighting new approaches to PDT and discussing the use of lasers and novel topical treatments for treatment of AK.

    Pain, satisfaction and quality of life associated with field therapies for actinic keratosis: A systematic review () -  Feb 20, 2024 - Abstract #AAD2024AAD_3136;
    5-fluorouracil was associated with greater pain during treatment, but patients were more satisfied with treatment outcome and more willing to repeat treatment as compared to imiquimod. Further studies comparing various field treatments for AK are needed to aid clinicians and patients in making an informed shared decision.

  • ||||||||||  Retrospective data, Journal:  The Impact of Non-opioid Analgesic Usage on Total Opioid Load During Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation: A Retrospective Study. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 13, 2023
    This study aimed to determine the association between non-opioid analgesic use and total opioid load, as measured using morphine milligram equivalents (MMEs), during inpatient rehabilitation for traumatic brain injury...Non-opioid medications that were reviewed in the study included acetaminophen, amitriptyline, baclofen, diclofenac, gabapentin, ibuprofen, lidocaine, methocarbamol, nortriptyline, and pregabalin...Results also showed that the mere presence of methocarbamol (regardless of daily or total dosage) had a significant effect on the ?MME. Conclusions Based on these findings, physicians may want to consider prescribing acetaminophen, gabapentin, or methocarbamol for patients admitted for inpatient rehabilitation following traumatic brain injury who require high amounts of opioids.

    Moreover, for all API-loaded membranes, the release mechanism followed Fickian diffusion, with the release rate being essentially governed by the diffusion process. These findings, together with their previously shown biological properties, support the suitability of the developed FucoPol HMs to be used as platforms for the topical delivery of drugs.

    Preclinical, Journal:  Research of diclofenac sodium-loaded gelatin scaffold with anti-inflammatory activity for promoting in vivo cartilage regeneration (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 29, 2023
    In vivo experiments showed that the samples in the experimental group had porcelain white cartilage like morphology, histologic staining showed obvious cartilage lacuna structure and cartilage specific extracellular matrix, the contents of GAG and collagen type Ⅱ were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the protein and mRNA expressions of CD3 and CD68 were significantly lower than those in the control group, with significant differences (P<0.05). The diclofenac sodium-loaded gelatin scaffold presents suitable pore size, porosity, and cytocompatibility, as well as exhibited satisfactory anti-inflammatory ability, providing a reliable scheme for alleviating the inflammatory reaction of regenerated cartilage tissue after in vivo implantation and promoting cartilage regeneration in vivo.
