We show these photocatalysts can initiate free radical polymerization to form bulk hydrogels in response to complementary DNA, a metal ion (Zn2+), or small molecules (glucose, hydrocortisone)...Furthermore, we demonstrate that these DNA scaffolds are modular and can be generalized to a plethora of triggers, based on recognition of molecular triggers by DNA aptamers. Future studies will explore spatially resolved polymer synthesis on material surfaces and living cells by using chemical stimulus and these switchable DNA catalysts.

In the absence of severe features (sodium <125 mmol/L, hypotension, reduced consciousness, hypoglycaemia and/or visual field defect), patients were administered a single intravenous dose of hydrocortisone (100 mg), observed for at least 4 h and then discharged on oral hydrocortisone (20 mg, 10 mg and 10 mg)...There were no 30-day readmissions or any associated hypophysitis-related mortality. All patients continued ICI therapy without interruption.

Description: A 44 year-old male with a past medical history significant for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and cerebral palsy presented with skin changes around his baclofen pump...For presumed anaphylactic reaction, the patient was given 100mg of hydrocortisone and further doses of epinephrine...While NBMA-associated anaphylaxis is commonly peri-intubation and sugammadex reactions are typically peri-extubation, patients can also be allergic to the sugammadex-rocuronium complex, further complicating attempts to distinguish between the two for future avoidance. As research is devoted towards understanding sugammadex anaphylaxis and possible alternative approaches, providers will have more information for determining the risks and benefits of different anesthetic methods in patients.

Favipiravir (86%) was the main antiviral treatment...Admission to the ICU was the only factor associated with reduced mortality [odds ratio (OR) 0.01, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.01-0.05, P < 0.001], whereas older age (OR 14.3, 95%CI 5.76-35.54, P < 0.001), high flow nasal cannula (HFNC; OR 9.2, 95% CI 3.9-21.6, P < 0.001), mechanical ventilation (OR 269.39, 95%CI 3.6-2173.63, P < 0.001), septic shock (OR 7.79, 95%CI, 2.01-30.18, P = 0.003), and hydrocortisone treatment (OR 27.01, 95%CI 5.29-138.31, P < 0.001) were factors associated with in-hospital mortality...The only factor associated with reduced mortality was admission to the ICU. Therefore, appropriate selection of patients for admission to the ICU, strategies to limit disease progression and prevent intubation, and early detection and prompt treatment of nosocomial infection can improve survival in these patients.

Two proteins, Hsp70 and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), were recently described as modulating post-traumatic processes, and in this study, we test them as targets for combination therapy using an inhibitor of GAPDH aggregation (derivative of hydrocortisone RX624) and an inducer of Hsp70 synthesis (the pyrrolylazine derivative PQ-29)...Using a rat weight drop model of TBI, we found that the combined use of both drugs prevented memory impairment and motor deficits, as well as a reduction of neurons and accumulation of GAPDH aggregates in brain tissue. In conclusion, we developed and tested a new approach to the treatment of TBI based on influencing distinct molecular mechanisms in brain cells.

The traditional adipogenic cocktail containing IBMX, dexamethasone, insulin and rosiglitazone is not food-compatible...Two glucocorticoid receptor activators, progesterone and hydrocortisone, found in DMAD and FBS, affect differentiation homogeneity, without playing an essential role in activating adipogenic genes...This was demonstrated in both media types and in four species: ruminant and monogastric. We therefore propose a simplified one-step adipogenic protocol which, given the replacement of rosiglitazone by a food-compatible PPARγ agonist, is suitable for making cultivated fat.
