    This program engaged and retained a subset of PEH with OUD in care and on buprenorphine over 12 months. While uninterrupted treatment and abstinence are reasonable outcomes for conventional treatment programs, intermittent treatment with buprenorphine and decreased opioid use were more common in this pilot and may confer important reductions in opioid and injection-related harms.

    The results of our study showed that Fentanyl administration decreased the number of cancer and cancer stem cells in the PANC-1 cell population, decreased the gene expression of stem cell marker and increased the expression of apoptosis-related genes. These results indicate that Fentanyl, which is used routinely in the pain palliation of pancreatic cancer, can be considered as an option in the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

    The patient received 20 units of platelet transfusion over 3 days prior to anesthesia. Dental surgery and multiple dental extractions were successfully completed under general anesthesia with sevoflurane, fentanyl, and remifentanil, and chemotherapy started 3 days postoperatively.

    Clinical, Journal:  Reduced urinary opioid levels from pain management patients associated with marijuana use. (Pubmed Central) -  May 17, 2020   
    Materials & Using a dataset of approximately 800,000 urine drug test results collected from pain management patients of a time from of multiple years, creatinine corrected opioid levels were evaluated to determine if the presence of the primary marijuana marker 11-nor-carboxy-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC-COOH) was associated with statistical differences in excreted opioid concentrations. Results & For each of the opioids investigated (codeine, morphine, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone, oxymorphone, fentanyl and buprenorphine), marijuana use was associated with statistically significant lower urinary opiate levels than in samples without indicators of marijuana use.

    The United States has witnessed an unprecedented opioid overdose epidemic since 2013 that derives primarily from commonly injected illicit opioids (e.g., heroin and fentanyl) (2)...These findings highlight age-associated differences in racial/ethnic prevalences and the potential for ED venues and opt-out, universal testing strategies to improve HCV infection awareness and surveillance for hard-to-reach populations. This opt-out, universal testing approach is supported by new recommendations for hepatitis C screening at least once in a lifetime for all adults aged ≥18 years, except in settings where the prevalence of positive results for HCV infection is <0.1% (7).

    A previously untested concern is that by restricting access to prescription opioids, pill mill laws could increase overdose from heroin and synthetic opioids, like illicitly produced fentanyl...Interview results suggest that both states engaged in robust enforcement and implementation of the law. A multi-pronged policy approach, including but not limited to pill mill laws, may be required to effectively address opioid overdose deaths.

    All procedures were performed with conscious sedation (Midazolam/Fentanyl)...This randomized controlled trial using validated patient comfort scoring assessments for same day bidirectional endoscopies demonstrated that the sequence of procedures affects the sedation used but does not affect overall patient comfort or satisfaction. Lesser sedation is needed in the EGD first group, and less postprocedural abdominal pain/discomfort and bloating is seen with CO insufflation.

    The presence of the synthetic opioid fentanyl and its analogues is a central contributor to the increases in preventable opioid-related deaths...These examples of innovation and expansion are encouraging but also occurring at the same time that the opioid overdose crisis shows few signs of abating. To truly address the crisis, Canada needs political environments at all government levels that are responsive and foster harm reduction innovation and drug policy experimentation.

    Our study identified 33 genes and 71 SNPs associated with opioid-intake related adverse patient outcomes: four studies showing associations of nine SNPs with clinical events (e.g., arrhythmia, length of stay and deaths); six studies showing associations of 13 SNPs with respiratory depression and 25 studies showing associations of 50 SNPs with opioid misuse behaviors. Available pharmacogenetic-tests covered polymorphisms associated with opioids metabolism and ignored polymorphisms associated with opioids transport, receptor-binding and signaling that were linked with respiratory depression and misuse behaviors.

    In this work, we evaluated the effects of acute treatment with morphine, fentanyl, tramadol, and naloxone, in the auditory brain stem potentials (ABR), the compound action potential (CAP), and distortion products otacoustic emissions (DPOAE), across a wide range of stimulus frequencies and amplitudes...These results show that the opioid receptor activation modulates both the afferent response at both the afferent response to acoustic stimuli, and also at the cochlear mechanics as revealed by DPOAE changes. These results present a significant step in understanding how opioid modulation of auditory responses may contribute to the auditory processing and to sensorineural hearing loss produced by opioids.

    There are reported cases involving commonly prescribed opioids including fentanyl and tramadol. However, we believe this is the first reported clinical case of acute transient opioid-induced secondary hypoadrenalism associated with fasting hypoglycaemia.
