    PS was significantly decreased 15 and 30 minutes following intramuscular premedication and IOP was significantly increased in the fentanyl group at all time points following intravenous administration. Medetomidine, methadone and fentanyl combinations are not recommended for use in patients where an increase in IOP or decrease in PS is undesirable.

    The inhibition of afferent feedback via the application of lumbar intrathecal fentanyl during exercise suppresses ventilation, which provides the most compelling supportive evidence to date...The review also discusses the increasing evidence that patients with certain chronic diseases exhibit exaggerated muscle afferent activation during exercise resulting in enhanced cardiorespiratory responses. This may provide a neural link between the well-established limb muscle dysfunction and associated exercise intolerance and exertional dyspnoea, and hence offer therapeutic targets for these patients.

    Later in their adulthood, we found that adult mice, that received the MMF-induced anesthesia, combined with virus-injected into the brain at postnatal day 2, showed similar performance in all behavioral tasks tested, including tasks for motor coordination, anxiety-related tasks, and spatial memory when compared to adult naïve littermates. This demonstrates that MMF anesthesia could be safely applied to mice for neonatal viral transduction at P2.

    Forty patients undergone elective upper limb surgery under general hypotensive anesthesia were randomized into groups A and B, where tourniquet pressure was calculated using AOP estimation for group A and LOP determination for group B. AOP, LOP, the time needed to estimate the AOP and determine the LOP and set the tourniquet inflation pressure, tourniquet inflation pressure, initial and maximal systolic blood pressure, heart rate, intraoperative fentanyl requirement, arm circumference, and tourniquet time were recorded...Tourniquet performance was excellent or good in all patients in both groups. Arterial occlusion pressure estimation or LOP determination methods to set the tourniquet inflation pressure with hypotensive anesthesia can provide effective minimal inflation pressure and satisfactory surgical field for upper extremity surgeries without tourniquet-related complications.

    This study was prompted by the marked rise in overdose deaths linked to synthetic opioids like fentanyl, which may require more potent, longer-lived opiate antagonists than naloxone...Despite these very rapid increases in plasma concentrations of naltrexone, its short half-life following intranasal administration (∼2.2 hours) could limit its usefulness as a rescue medication, particularly against longer-lived synthetic opioids. Nonetheless, the ability to rapidly attain high plasma concentrations of naltrexone may be useful in other indications, including an as-needed dosing strategy to treat alcohol use disorder.

    Lastly, a striking result from these studies is that no such exacerbation of nociceptive hypersensitivity occurs when either morphine, fentanyl, or oxycodone dosing begins at the time of nerve injury. These results extend our previous findings that morphine exacerbates nociceptive hypersensitivity to the clinically relevant opioids fentanyl and oxycodone when administered after the development of nociceptive hypersensitivity, while also providing possible clinically-relevant insight into when these opioids can be safely administered and not exacerbate neuropathic pain.
