After the study was carried out, we concluded that the most widely used combination of drugs were fentanyl associated with midazolam in 31 patients (79.48%), fentanyl plus etomidate in 5 (12.8%), and others in 6 patients (15, 3%) CONCLUSIONS It can be concluded that drugs with a good safety spectrum and mostly hemodynamically stable are used, so that this contributes to a very safe and painless technique that can reverse the instability of the patient. It is important to familiarize ourselves with the different pain relievers and sedatives and adapt it according to each patient in order to optimize this very safe technique.

Postoperative pain and adverse effects between variable-rate feedback infusion (VFIM group, n = 36) and conventional fixed-rate basal infusion (CFIM group, n = 36) of fentanyl/ropivacaine-based patient-controlled epidural analgesia were evaluated...Further, the number of patients who suffered from postoperative nausea was significantly lower in the VFIM group than in the CFIM group until six hours after surgery. The variable-rate feedback infusion mode of patient-controlled epidural analgesia may provide better analgesia accompanied with significantly less nausea in the early postoperative period than the conventional fixed-rate basal infusion mode following open gastrectomy.
