Study population: Subjects undergoing a primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to be performed within 6 hours after the onset of symptoms of a first acute anterior myocardial infarction (MI). According to current standards of care, all subjects will have the PCI started less than 6 hours after the onset of the symptoms of AMI.

Rosuvastatin is a proven cholesterol lowering medicine. Apart from it’s cholesterol lowering action, rosuvastatin may also increase tolerance against ischemia-reperfusion injury. We hypothesize that rosuvastatin increases tolerance against ischemia-reperfusion injury by induction of ecto-5’-nucleotidase and thereby increasing adenosine activity.This protective effect of rosuvastatin can be abbrogated by using the adenosine receptor antagonist caffeine.

On the basis of previous research we expect that giving erythropoietin early in the course of cardiopulmonary resuscitation would decrease the ischaemic and reperfusion damage to the brain and heart after a period of cardiac arrest and thus it would improve neurological outcome of these patients.
