    Journal:  Blood-brain barrier-restricted translocation of Toxoplasma gondii from cortical capillaries. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 27, 2022
    Pro- and anti-inflammatory treatments of mice with LPS and hydrocortisone, respectively, impacted BBB permeability and parasite loads in the brain parenchyma...The data reveal that the initial passage of T. gondii to the central nervous system occurs principally across cortical capillaries. The integrity of the microvascular BBB restricts parasite transit, which conversely is exacerbated by the inflammatory response.

    Clinical, Journal:  Management of corticosteroid-dependent eosinophilic interstitial nephritis: A case report. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 27, 2022
    The presence of underdetermined autoimmune processes and difficulties in discontinuing the putative offending drug discontinuation are contributing factors to corticosteroid dependency in patients with eosinophilic interstitial nephritis. MMF may be beneficial in the management of corticosteroid-dependent eosinophilic interstitial nephritis by reducing the adverse effects related to high-dose and long-term corticosteroid use.

    Journal:  Acute hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state in cystic fibrosis-related diabetes caused by glucocorticoid and itraconazole interaction. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 26, 2022
    We report the case of a 15-year old boy with stable CFRD who developed acute HHS after treatment with glucocorticoids and itraconazole for presumed allergic broncho-pulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). This case highlights the dangerous and preventable combination of high glucose intake, glucocorticoids and itraconazole inhibition of CYP3A4 (with resultant glucocorticoid accumulation) that can result in a state of life- threatening HHS in an adolescent with previously stable CFRD.
  • ||||||||||  triamcinolone acetonide / Generic mfg.
    Preclinical, Journal:  Comparison of methods to experimentally induce opacification and elasticity change in ex vivo porcine lenses. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 26, 2022
    In this study, porcine lenses were incubated in either culture medium, glucose, triamcinolone acetonide, sodium chloride, hydrogen peroxide, sodium selenite, neutral buffered formalin, or were exposed to microwave heating to experimentally induce lens opacification...No change in the size and weight of the lenses were detected, whereas loss in elasticity could be detected in lenses treated with formalin solution or microwave heating. Thus, neutral buffered formalin- and microwave-treated ex vivo porcine lenses seem to be a suitable model for mature cataracts, whereas hypertonic sodium chloride may be useful for studies on osmolarity-induced lens opacification.

    Journal:  Plasma Proteomics in Healthy Subjects with Differences in Tissue Glucocorticoid Sensitivity Identifies A Novel Proteomic Signature. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 26, 2022
    For this purpose, 101 healthy volunteers were given a very low dose (0.25 mg) of dexamethasone at midnight, and were stratified into the 10% most glucocorticoid sensitive (S) (n = 11) and 10% most glucocorticoid resistant (R) (n = 11) according to the 08:00 h serum cortisol concentrations determined the following morning...Our results indicate that a proteomics signature may differentiate the S from the R healthy subjects, and may be useful in clinical practice. In addition, it may provide clues of the underlying molecular mechanisms of the chronic stress-related diseases, including myocardial infarction and Alzheimer's disease.

    Journal:  Intraperitoneal Triamcinolone Reduces Postoperative Adhesions, Possibly through Alteration of Mitochondrial Function. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 26, 2022
    The primary outcome of this pilot study was to compare adhesion rates, extent, and severity in patients who were treated with intraperitoneal triamcinolone acetonide during the initial abdominal myomectomy (n = 31) with those who did not receive any antiadhesion interventions (n = 21), as documented on retrospective chart review...Triamcinolone prevents the increase in reactive oxygen species through alterations in mitochondrial function that are HIF-1α-independent. Controlling mitochondrial function may thus allow for adhesion-free surgery and reduced postoperative complications.
  • ||||||||||  budesonide / Generic mfg.
    Journal:  New Strategies for Improving Budesonide Skin Retention. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 26, 2022
    When the hydrogels were formulated with the inclusion complex, an increase in budesonide skin retention was observed with both hydrogels. Poloxamer hydrogel proved to be a suitable vehicle for cutaneous administration of budesonide.

    Clinical, Journal:  The application of low-dose dexamethasone in total knee arthroplasty: finding out the best route and dosage schedule. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 26, 2022
    Alternatively, periarticular infiltration of low-dose dexamethasone can produce equivalent analgesic effect as SDIV in first 24 h without causing significant blood sugar rise and wound complications, but its antiemetic effect remains subtle. Therefore, it is recommended to further study the combination of intraoperative periarticular and postoperative intravenous dexamethasone for their possible additive effect.
