Ocular Syphilis: A mimicker for giant cell arteritis () - Feb 4, 2023 - Abstract #BSR2023BSR_472; Diagnosing GCA remains a clinical challenge for rheumatologists, especially in cases with typical symptoms and signs but negative confirmatory testing on imaging and histology. There are a wide range of conditions that resemble GCA, and neuro-ocular syphilis is one such diagnosis that has been reported in the literature as a mimic, as demonstrated by this important case.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Associated Vasculitis- A Limitation to Cancer Therapy () - Feb 4, 2023 - Abstract #BSR2023BSR_470; ICIs have revolutionised the management and outcomes across a range of malignancies. However, their mechanism can inadvertently induce undesired toxicity, the awareness of which is paramount.

Rheumatoid vasculitis presenting in the absence of rheumatoid arthritis () - Feb 4, 2023 - Abstract #BSR2023BSR_374; To our knowledge, only seven cases have been reported in the literature of a patient with RV at initial diagnosis of RA and two cases in which a diagnosis of RV preceded the diagnosis of RA. Due to its high mortality and morbidity we would like to increase awareness amongst clinicians of this unusual vasculitic form of clinical presentation of RA.

A rare case of coexistence of ANCA-associated vasculitis and malignancy () - Feb 4, 2023 - Abstract #BSR2023BSR_372; Co-existence of a vasculitis and a neoplastic disease is rare. ANCA positive vasculitis is most commonly reported with haematological malignancies but less so in solid tumours, presenting as a paraneoplastic phenomenon.

COVID-19 Vaccine Induced Myositis () - Feb 4, 2023 - Abstract #BSR2023BSR_369; There are case reports of myositis following COVID-19 vaccination but our patient's case is complicated by the differential diagnosis of GVHD and concurrent myocarditis. Ongoing work is needed to clarify the exact link between vaccination and the presentation of a new inflammatory myositis, but it is important to recognise and start treatment early in order to preserve muscle bulk and ensure recovery.

Severe myocarditis with cardiogenic shock in adult-onset Still's disease after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination: a case of atypical presentation () - Feb 4, 2023 - Abstract #BSR2023BSR_365; Severe myocarditis with acute heart failure and cardiogenic shock is a possible initial presentation of adult-onset Still's disease after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination. After exclusion of more common aetiologies, it is important to consider adult-onset Still's disease as one of the differential diagnoses in the presence of compatible features following COVID-19 vaccination, such that appropriate and timely workup and treatment can be offered.

Review, Journal: Isolated relapse of plasma cell leukemia in the central nervous systems: a case report and literature review. (Pubmed Central) - Feb 4, 2023 We recently experienced a case of plasma cell leukemia that had been in stringent complete remission for nine years after autologous stem cell transplantations with subsequent courses of lenalidomide maintenance therapy, and then relapsed as an extramedullary plasmacytoma in the central nervous system...Salvage chemotherapy with isatuximab, pomalidomide, and dexamethasone (IsaPD) was promptly initiated...When excessive serum levels of clonotypic free light chains are noted, their significance should be carefully assessed even when plasma cell propagation in the bone marrow is not observed. In such cases, hematologists should search for extramedullary proliferation of plasma cells, including in the immune-privileged central nervous system.

Journal: A Rare Symptom of Secondary Infection After Facial Thread Lift and Its Treatment. (Pubmed Central) - Feb 4, 2023 The patient was later cured by thread removal, local injection of 5-fluorouracil and triamcinolone acetonide. Postthreading infections have been documented in the past, but it is significant to note that, first, this patient's postinfection symptoms were distinct because she experienced both mild local symptoms and serious systemic symptoms, and second, the authors looked into a quick and efficient treatment option.

Journal: Simultaneous Scalp, Skull, Kidney, and Pancreas Transplant from a Single Donor:Insights from a Five Year Follow-Up. (Pubmed Central) - Feb 3, 2023 Over the ensuing 5 years, the patient underwent a single episode of acute scalp rejection successfully managed with intravenous solumedrol, one resection of a basal cell carcinoma on the native scalp, and hardware removal and bony contouring...His seizures were ultimately controlled. Currently, more than 5 years following his multi-organ transplant, the patient continues to have excellent allograft function and a very satisfactory aesthetic outcome, demonstrating that in certain cases, combined vascularized composite allotransplantation with solid organ transplant can be performed safely without compromising the solid organ transplant.
