    Cryptococcal Meningoencephalitis and Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome in a patient on Tocilizumab Therapy: A Case Report (Both in-person and online) -  Mar 12, 2023 - Abstract #AAN2023AAN_1298;
    A 71-year-old female with giant cell arteritis on daily prednisone and monthly Tocilizumab infusions presented with worsening headaches for 2 weeks and new-onset confusion for 3 days...She was started on empiric liposomal amphotericin B and flucytosine before the cryptococcal antigen and cultures resulted...She was continued on antifungal therapy and received IV methylprednisolone for IRIS...Despite early and appropriate treatment, she continued to worsen with multiple complications including IRIS, a dysfunctional inflammatory response to infection precipitated by immune recovery. In patients treated appropriately for cryptococcal meningoencephalitis, a failure to respond should raise concern for complicating conditions.

    Journal:  Association Between Multiple Sclerosis and the Symptoms of Vertigo and Facial Nerve Palsy. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 11, 2023
    Otolaryngologists often suspect Hunt's syndrome in patients who present with facial nerve palsy combined with vertigo. However, herein, we report our experience with an extremely rare case of a patient with atypical nystagmus symptoms, eye movement disorder, and diplopia secondary to facial palsy and vertigo, who presented with a clinical course different from that of Hunt's syndrome.

    Journal:  MRI-visible mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticles with enhanced antioxidant capacity for osteoarthritis therapy. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 11, 2023
    Herein, mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticles (DAMM NPs) doped with arginine and manganese (Mn) ions were prepared to load dexamethasone (DEX) for OA intervention...Importantly, the T1-T2 magnetic contrast capabilities of DAMM NPs allowed an MRI-trackable delivery, manifesting a distinct feature widely regarded to boost the potential of nanomedicines for clinical applications. Together, our developed antioxidant-enhanced DAMM NPs with MRI-visible signals may serve as a novel multifunctional nanocarriers for prevention of OA progression.

    Immunosuppression minimization during COVID infection: is it safe? (Grand Georgian) -  Mar 10, 2023 - Abstract #ITS2023ITS_79;
    Reduction of the anti-metabolic immunosuppressive therapy for a short period of time did not seem to correlate with the development of de-novo DSA or increased rates of acute rejection in our expanded cohort. Studies on larger cohorts will help further determine the impact of IS reduction on transplant outcomes following COVID-19 infection in renal transplant recipients.

    Journal:  Complete Tolerogenic Adjuvant Stimulates Regulatory T Cell Response to Immunization. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 9, 2023
    By dissecting the respective role of each of these components during immunization, we have further shown why immunosuppressive and immunogenic agents are both needed for forming true adjuvants for Treg cells. This finding may guide the design of additional, and potentially more potent, complete tolerogenic adjuvants with which we may form numerous novel vaccines for treating immune diseases.

    Journal:  Fluid and vasopressor therapy in sepsis (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 9, 2023
    With increasing norepinephrine dose, addition of hydrocortisone or vasopressin may contribute to maintaining the hemodynamic state, although the prognostic advantage of these drugs has not been demonstrated. While dobutamine may be considered in patients with septic cardiomyopathy, the evidence for inotropic therapy in sepsis is limited.

    Review, Journal:  Efficacy and safety of needle-free jet injector-assisted intralesional treatments in dermatology-a systematic review. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 9, 2023
    Limited evidence suggests that needle-free jet injector-assisted intralesional treatment is efficacious and safe for hypertrophic and atrophic acne scars. More well-powered RCTs investigating the efficacy and safety of jet injector treatment in dermatology are warranted to make further evidence-based recommendations.
