Preclinical, Journal: Effect of dexamethasone administration on gonadal-fertility functions in female albino rats. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 21, 2023 The ovary sections showed degenerative tissue with necrosis of the Graafian follicles, stromal fibrosis, and vacuolation of the interstitial cells. the study concludes that dexamethasone administration has a potentially adverse effect on gonadotropin, prolactin, and ovarian follicle cells in female albino rats.

Journal: Improving Emergency Medicine Clinician Awareness of Prehospital-Administered Medications. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 21, 2023 Innovations that improve accessibility of written documentation of prehospital medication administration were associated with improved subjective assessment of EM clinician awareness of prehospital medications, but not the outcome measure of medication error. Effective error reduction likely requires better system integration between prehospital and EM records.

Journal: Dexamethasone-Enhanced Continuous Online Microdialysis for Neuromonitoring of O after Brain Injury. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 21, 2023 Consistent with prior reports on glucose, O exhibited a variety of responses to spreading depolarization and a prolonged, essentially permanent decline in the days after controlled cortical impact. These findings confirm that Dex-enhanced coMD delivers valuable information regarding the impact of spreading depolarization and controlled cortical impact on O levels in the rat cortex.

Vital signs are as follows: BP=75/60, HR=46 (bpm), and SpO2= 77%.1.Discuss possible methods of pre-empting and managing airway compromise in patient undergoing "awake" craniotomy. The patient reestablishes spontaneous ventilation, the Mayfield head clamp is removed, and the surgical incision dressed and wrapped. She is then transported to the neurosurgical intensive care unit without further incident.

Two weeks earlier, the patient had been seen by his primary care physician who prescribed amoxicillin, albuterol, and oral prednisolone for a respiratory tract infection (RTI) with croup...Empirically, the patient received an epinephrine nebulizer and oral prednisolone without improvement of his stridor...Another midazolam 1mg IV dose is administered with good effect. What are your goals for airway management?...Because you wish to maintain spontaneous ventilation, Sevoflurane 2% is started...Rocuronium was administered prior to advancing the ETT with a flexible bronchoscope; rapid return to SpO2 95% and normalization of the heart rate ensued.Could this code event have been prevented?...Pathology revealed poorly differentiated neuroblastoma. The patient was extubated after 7 weeks and discharged home 4 months after arriving in the ED.

Does Pre-emptive Dexamethasone Provide Prophylaxis Against Sugammadex-induced Bradycardia? A Retrospective Study (Hall D-9) - Jul 20, 2023 - Abstract #ASA2023ASA_78; There was no significant change in heart rate slowing between the dexamethasone and non-dexamethasone group, potentially negating the theory of a transient early binding of sugammadex to corticosteroids with later more avid binding to rocuronium and unbinding the corticosteroids, or, it may be that other corticosteroids, such as hydrocortisone are required to prevent this effect. Prospective trials evaluating this effect with cortisol concentration measurement are needed to further evaluate the hypothesis.

Preclinical, Journal: Characterization of gut microbiota in mouse models of aging and sarcopenia. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 20, 2023 This study contained two experimental designs using the ICR mouse model for 1) determining the association between aging and gut microbiota (by analyzing murine fecal samples) and 2) determining the association between sarcopenia and gut microbiota in mice treated with microorganisms or dexamethasone...Although the sample size was small, these results point to similarities in the gut microbiota between aging and sarcopenia and to differences between young and old individuals. The results on gut microbiota obtained in this study form a basis for studying the development of sarcopenia in geriatric animal models in the future.
